Hello all,
I am new to the forum, I was considering purchasing a puppy from Northwest Goldens in Washington State and I am curious if anybody else has any experience with them. I look forward to getting any feedback I can in regards to this. Thanks

If you post the registered names of the parents of a litter, someone on this forum can help you research the online registry to verify health clearances on the parents and close relatives of the sire and dam. It's important to ask a lot of questions, perform due diligence to make sure you are not taken advantage of by a breeder who is less than ethical, no matter how you are referred. Questions like: Why are you breeding this litter? Will you be keeping one of the puppies? How many litters will you be raising at the same time? Are they raised in your home or in a kennel? How are they socialized?

Does she show her dogs or compete in some venue? How many dogs does she currently own and do they live on her property or with someone else?

There is an old thread discussing this breeder that you may find informative:

Judy is the President of our local Golden Retriever club and I know her from there. She's very friendly and does compete in conformation. I can't speak to her breeding program because I don't have much knowledge about it, but agree that you should make sure to research the sire and dam to conform clearances.

I was just on their web site and I find it a bit strange that they don't have any information on their dogs whatsoever, other than just a few photos and their call names. Most reputable breeders, in addition to photos, have all of their dogs' full AKC registration names as well as links to their health clearances and pedigree on K9 data, so I would want to know the registration names of both the sire and dam so that they can be looked up on offa.org in order to verify whether or not they have their hips, elbows, eyes, and hearts cleared. I would also want to see clearances for at least 5 generations of grandparents as well.

I was a puppy buyer from Judy back in Jan 2008.

1. Judy never got me my AKC paperwork. She promised and promised then just quit answering her phone.
Now I know that I could have filed a disciplinary complaint with AKC and she would have to answer to them. But I was not very knowledgeable about such things back then, and Judy never had to answer to anyone about this. This issue required that I register IPL for my dog so that I could compete with him. What a pain in the neck that paperwork was.

2. When my puppy had medical issues she told me he would grow out of it. He never did. Severe elbow dysplasia and mild hip dysplasia, pigmentary uveitis, corneal dystrophy, and digestive issues. I never could get Judy to even pick up the phone to discuss these issues. PU is heredity issue.

Judy is probably not a bad person, she is an irresponsible breeder that churns out puppies without responding to buyers with issues. She doesn't seem to really care if she gets all clearances on the dogs she breeds. What bugs me the most is that GRCA has allowed Judy to become a CCA judge when she doesn't follow the COE herself! That goes for her local GR club either, nobody has called Judy on the carpet for any offenses.

Judy has used 2 different kennel names and several different last names. So finding her pedigrees in k9data can be a little difficult.

The one good thing I can say about Judy is, my puppy Reilly had the most wonderful personality and was very easy to train. We off the cuff one day took and passed the CGC test without ever having taken an obedience class. We competed in NAHRA hunt tests and he was a wonderful bird dog with very little training. He loved all dogs, especially puppies and loved all people. His temperament was amazing! I will always miss Reilly, he was a very special guy. To that I can say Judy did right by making sure she bred the golden retriever temperament. It's just too bad she overlooks everything else.

I will speak to this: We approved Judy's application in the first few years the CCA was a program. It's an educational program first and foremost, and whether someone follows a CoE or not isn't considered if they appear to be able to educate others well. It seems like this sort of discrepancy between one's behavior and one's publicly stated ethics (because we do all sign a CoE agreement yearly) should be taken up within the local club. BUT if she's the Pres then she's probably a worker- and no one is going to buck the workers, few and far between as they are.
It's a dilemma for sure. Join the club and you tackle it! I'm sure others know if there is a problem, and you'd get support. Especially if you are a worker.

The common theme I have read while researching this breeder is that all her puppies come with giardia/coccidia and people are not informed of this until after they go to pick up their puppies.

There is no reason to buy from a breeder that has a rampant parasite problem with their pups. Treatment can be difficult and cause many trips to the vet as it often reoccurs.

I'm sure the puppies grow up to be wonderful family members but I personally am choosing a breeder that hasn't had rampant parasite infections in every puppy born for many years.
