Is this normal?

It's the third time in the span of two months that Amber has suffered an anal leak, the last being on our couch. Leak went through all the way to the foam, so I am not sure I can clean that well, since it has a sewn protective cover. As for the couch cover itself, I threw it in the washing machine with some vinegar for pre-wash. It's been four hours now, and that rotten fish smell is still in the air....

Her behavior is normal, no rear irritation whatsoever. There is nothing in particular that could trigger it (a visitor, too much play, etc) as far as I can tell.

As for food, she is on grain free, but I have started giving her an dog cookie treats (almost every day). I'm going to stop giving that to her, in case it's the culprit.

My husband says we should schedule a trip to the vet.

Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

My daughter's doxie has to have her anal glands expressed, several times a year, or they get too full and leak. If Amber hasn't had her glands looked at, It would probably be a good idea to get it checked out, as they can get infected. If she's scooting a lot, she's trying to relieve the pressure. Have you tried Febreze antibacterial fabric refresher? You might have to spray it a few times. It works well, with other odours, you can't clean.
