Asia has been drinking lots of water and her liver is enlarged so she had blood work done and the results will be in today. her heart and lungs sound good and her gums were ok at her checkup yesterday so that is a good sign. She is eating but not with her usual gusto and takes some coaxing. She will be 12 soon so I know I need to expect issues to arise but I am feeling nervous to hear. Please send us some positive thoughts and prayers today. this forum has always been a source of strength for me and I need you today!

Overall I would have to say pretty well. She is slow some days and perkier on others. She still loves her walks and until a few days ago was eating normally. The vet mentioned her liver a couple of months ago but at that time she wasn't drinking more water than usual so she didn't feel blood work was needed. That changed about a month ago but her energy level hadn't changed.

Thanks everyone. Her liver values are slightly high and her kidneys are moderately. The vet wants a urine sample to see if the kidneys are the problem. She will then supplement her with iron and milk thistle to start. There is an option of surgery to take a biopsy of the liver but given her age I really don't think I want to put her through that. The vet said that even if we get a clear diagnosis there is not a high likelihood there is anything that can be done. I will have more info after the urine is tested and will go from there, She is a trooper and I will make her comfortable and monitor her for the time being. the vet said she shouldn't be in any pain but may feel ill at times with a chronic disease. Time will tell I guess:(

I''m sorry, I know it is not easy getting confirmation that there actually is something wrong. I will cross my fingers that the supplementation will make a difference and there won't be something else found with the urine labs. I agree wholeheartedly about not putting her through the liver biopsy. I wouldn't either. Thinking of you and Asia.

No she did not have an ultrasound...yet at least. I am still debating on whether or not to do that and will wait to hear what the urinalysis shows and discuss the ultrasound more with the vet. The vet said that even if we get a clearer idea from an ultrasound there is not a likelihood that is can be fixed and I don't want to put her through a surgery at her age if it turns out to be a tumour. Supplementing her I will do for sure and changing her food to ne that is easier on her kidneys if that is the issue. I am still thinking about the options and will make a decision once I hear more hopefully tomorrow as long as I am successful at getting a urine sample in the dark tomorrow morning. Asia gets up very early to pee so it will be a bit of an adventure::wink2:

Yes she is a strong girl. I am not feeling optimistic though. She will be loved and will be spoiled even more than usual. I know she has had a wonderful life but am not ready for what lied ahead:( The most important thing for me is to make sure she is comfortable and that i am able to make the best decision for her when the time comes to let her go.I pray that it is not too soon.

Our vet told us in October Jake had a enlarged liver and his lungs sounded rough. She told us that it could be a thousand things and said that we should do a X-ray. Of course because the vet didn't bring up cancer and didn't seem overly concerned we were going to wait until after Christmas. We didn't make it that far. He collapsed a week before. I totally understand though not wanting to put her through it. Just make sure that you won't second guess yourself if it is. My mom is always what if we would of done the exray. Maybe we would of caught it in time. All of Jakes bloodwork was normal.

I was successful at getting the urine sample:) Will drop it off when the vet opens in a couple of hours. I bought a new senior food for her to try and she is nuts about it and eating with gusto once again. She has been limping though for the past couple of days which may be a coincidence or may be related. I have no idea but will mention it to the vet. It seems to be her right front leg. It was quite bad last night but not as much this morning. Honestly there is always something to worry about with these babies isn't there. I will post when I hear back from the vet after the urine is tested.
