Blackout car window blind

Hi All,

Can anyone recommended a blackout car window blind (universal or custom), or even suggest a homemade solution? One of my dogs (Teddy) is a bit of a barker and when I am dog training in the evening, it would be nice to leave one dog in the car whilst training the other (NB: I would never leave any of my dogs in the car if it was a hot evening). I think that if Teddy can't see out, it may reduce his barking a little.

I've never seen backout type curtains for cars. I've seen them for RVs for the cab portion tho. If you were to purchase some dark fabric and attach velcro strips would that work? Just put small velcro tabs above and below the windows and then put the locking tabs on the fabric and hang them that way? They would probably be quick to hang up and take down. Since I do training in my yard I don't have to worry about the other dogs while I was working with one of them. That's the only suggestion I can think of.

Most of what you'll find online is probably to block out the sun for babies or small children. You'll probably be better off making something yourself if you really want it to be impossible for him to see out of. Try maybe some black felt or other thick material. If he's determined youll have to adhere to both the top and bottom which could be difficult.

Thanks for the replies. I will check the Automotive Section of Amazon.

It isn't clear from Amazon, but I think that the shades in the link above can be seen through. The shade is good to cool the car, but my primary purpose is to stop Teddy seeing out and barking at everybody who passes by.

Thanks

I may have a solution to my blackout blind problem. My friend blacked out the windows of his camper van with some foam insulation board. He bought a roll and cut it to the exact size of the window. He was then able to push it in over the lip. He has some left of his roll, so I will give it ago. :)

I think whatever you make for this it would be better to fix it outside the car so that Teddy cannot get it and chew it up - unless he is in a crate of course. It would be easier to stick it on the outside I would have thought. You are not going to drive with it on. Just throw a large piece of black out fabric over the whole of the back of the car and fix it to the wheels or whatever. Does it matter if he sees out of the front windows? If so you will have to make individual covers for each window!! What a business!!
I sold a basset once who got car sick seeing out of the windows. They had a wooden crate made so he could not see out (holes for air) and it worked!!
