Hi Gang.
We couldn't get the Direct TV to work today. We found that Cody chewed through the HDMI cable.
The cable is one thing, but what if he chewed through a electrical outlet? Can he get electrocuted?
Cody is 7 months old and has plenty of chew toys. Going at an Elk antler as I write this.
He has been out of the crate for a couple of months and is behaving pretty well. He only ate the stuff on the coffee table once. Hate to have to put him back in the crate when we are away from home again.
So what should we do?
Thanks
Dan
Yes, he could have been electrocuted if he chewed a cord that was plugged in.
I would keep him in a crate for a while yet and spend time puppy proofing.
I had a dog that liked to chew cables...I took a piece of 2 conductor wire and attached a 9 volt battery to it and let her chew on it...she got shocked by it twice...it solved the problem.
Yes very dangerous we lost a pet bunny that way. Do your best to protect him and more important break the habit. Get him to focus on appropriate things to chew. I think he's earned himself a visit to the toy store to get lots of dog toys with that stunt.
I would not leave him out of the crate when you're not home to supervise.
An alternative would be doggy day care, which is where my dogs go when I go to the office three times a week.
I just noticed you mentioned he has many toys, that's good. A few more can never hurt and rotating them on and off can help to keep them interesting. It sounds like he is on a very good path and just made what could have been a very bad mistake. My boys transitioned from the crate to the closed up kitchen and now have the run of the house. Do you have a smallish room you could make safe and allow the run of that room while you are away? Since he seems to be ok with house and furniture just secure any potential dangers. Garbage cans, cabinets, little low things and wires . Start with the same guidelines you would for childproofing.
