This morning Sydney got some salt on her paws (the road salt kind) and it was burning (she's generally sensitive to salt on sidewalks etc).

I washed it off, but she would have licked a bit of it. This was around 9:30 this morning.

It's now 5pm and she just threw up. Mostly eaten food - digested.

Should I be concerned that it's anything more than the salt effecting her tummy a little? I'm kind of freaking out.

So since I wrote this I have:

- Called the emergency vet who said it's not common in Toronto, I could call the poison line if I wanted but to keep boots on her for now on

- Asked three dog friends and everyone said it was probably just the bit of salt irritating her tummy and not to worry since it only happened once and she's still fairly energetic + eating

- Walked her (while wearing boots) and wouldn't let her eat snow

- Fed her - gave her regular food but not all of it yet

- Given her feet an actual bath with soap to make sure there is no residual salt on from earlier

I'm going to try to relax. Easier said than done for me.

Sorry, I didn't see this post earlier. We've never had a dog get sick from salt but I'm pretty quick at washing their feet. I'm glad you spoke to a pro and that she's feeling better!

I know, it's hard but if she ate a little and kept it down she should be good tonight.

Thanks for that, reassurance goes a long way with me She ate about 45 mins ago and is fine so far. I listened to her tummy and lots of noises in there! If she's fine in another hour she can have the other half of her food.

aww sorry about sydney im glad she's feeling better. Like joyce said its hard to NOT worry but I think she will be fine. keep us updated just in case.
