I found out last night,from spirits breeder, that his dad died of non inherited bone cancer last fall, his leg was amputated, but he ended up dieing from the cancer a few months later.

I'm sorry to hear that. It must be a little scary.

What do they mean by "non inherited" bone cancer? The inheritance factors in osteosarcoma haven't been pinned down, so far as I know.

Not sure, how old, i did send her a email and asked, have not heard back, i think what non inherited, means that in her line of goldens, she has tried to breed out the cancer gene,as much as one can, she is the breder of both spencer,and spirit,very much trusted, and does all clearences.

this makes no sense to me... I am with Tippy I don't know that they have identified the causes of cancer well enough to be able to make a determination about inheritence....

My guess is that the breeder is trying to say that there's no reason to expect that it would be hereditary, i.e., that Spirit wouldn't have an elevated risk compared to any other Golden. That's like the case and is probably true.

Believe me, i trust this lady ,totally, i just did not consider, non inherited bone cancer,and bone cancer that is inherited.

How scary. I have to say, I question when anyone says they know anything for sure about cancer. If we knew everything we would get rid of it. I think it's wonderful that she has tried to avoid lines with cancer, I just don't think any line is 100% free of cancer...if that makes sense.
