8 weeks old is very young to be expecting her to walk nicely on a leash & to retrieve. I did not even start walking Loki on a leash until he was around 12 weeks old ...except around the garden in short bursts to get him used to it. Walking on a lead does not come natural to a puppy. They are used to being able to romp about, so suddenly expecting them to walk nicely beside you on lead in a straight line, is asking an awful lot from a baby of such a very young age. It takes lots of patience & gentleness & training over weeks to achieve that. If you push it or show your frustration, you might well end up with a puppy who is stubborn & disinterested, which will cause untold problems further down the line. Retrieving is something which has to be taught too ....my boy Loki is 5.5 months old & is only now becoming interested to proper retrieving. She is a very young baby. Please do not expect so much from her. She is still settling in with you. Enjoy her as a baby. Engage with her, when she wants that. Some babies are more independent than others. If you lower your expectations a lot, you will enjoy her more, & she will enjoy you more. Although it seems to go on forever when they are going through that nippy teething stage, when their gums are hurting them, it actually does not last long. Holding a chew for her in the side of her mouth, so that she can chomp down on the back of her gums, which is hard to do herself at this age, is something nice you can do for her ...change sides too. My trainer told me to do that when Loki was 8 weeks old. Ice cubes made with chicken stock or just water, are also soothing on those sore, inflamed gums.

Something I started with Sage the other day, I take four ice cubs and put them in a metal dish....swish them around to get her interested. She then tries to get them out of it...it is fun to watch her paw at it, try to pick them up in her mouth and carry and bat it around when she has been victorious in her efforts. Now my floor does get a little wet, but it's water so I consider it a small price to pay for her fun. Not to mention she will then chew them thus giving her some relief on her gums....

I see, i had dogs before but ive never seen a puppy this independant and i was worried that i was doing something wrong. its good to know shes very normal!
My little Kaesie came to me all by her self today and slept on my lap!!!!!!
and for some reasons shes starting to play within my eye sight now.
she was potty trained on a peeped, and she never had a mistake after a day and a half to 2 days!! but, she suddenly made 3 mistakes today, and very far from the peepad...any idea why?? ive never scolded her...or hit her. im trying to use positive reinforcements, which is slooowly working like a charm!
i hope my little Kaesie likes me at least as much as i do!
This is my first puppy in 15years, as i have had 8 dogs at once...and lost them all at the same time(natural age death) YES I HAD 8 PUPPIES AT ONCE! lol
well this forum is a must for any dog lovers/ owners very helpful!
thanks guys
