I was on here about a week ago wandering if I should get another dog. Well, I think I have answered my question....

Today when coming home from running errands there was a golden retriever mix wondering in our neighborhood. She was golden in color and had the feathering on the tail and legs, but her snout was longer than any golden I have seen....almost like an Irish Setter snout. She was super sweet and other than being very thin and hungry (she ate two bowls of food when we brought her in), she seemed like someone's pet. I had never seen her in the neighborhood before and she wasn't wearing a collar, so we took her in for a little while. She and Chester got along great! There was some initial growling on Chester's part, but after spending some time playing in the snow, they were fine. She even got along with our cats

I would have loved to just keep her, but I called animal control b/c I feel that she has to belong to someone. The animal control officer scanned her for a microchip, but she didn't have one. They took her to the shelter, but if she is not claimed by her owner in 5 days, we can adopt her.

I am pretty happy. Either we will be bringing home another golden mix in 5 days or she is returned to her owners, which is what I would want if my dog was lost. The best news is that we know by Chester's reaction today that another dog is definitely in our near future

Awww what a good feel good story. I hope the original owners do show up, but if not at least she'll be going to a loving home.

That's the best way to acquire a dog - when they find you. Obviously, it's fate!

She looks very sweet--a lot like my Bella. I suspect she is purebred but from a back yard breeder. Her nose is long but that isn't all that unusual.

I hope she gets to come home to you. If her previous owner lost her and hadn't micro-chipped her, I hope she lands someplace better!

Just called the animal shelter and even though she is posted on the website as impounded, the animal control officer who picked her up yesterday thinks he knows the owners of the dog. They are out of town for the holidays he thinks. Why he didn't just tell me that yesterday???? Anyway, I am trying to keep my spirits up and look on the bright side that she will be returned to her owners. Also, I am trying not to question the home she is going back to. I know we have left Chester with a dog sitter before, so maybe something went wrong. Oh well...I know the right dog will come along for us...just like it did with Chester

Don't give up on her- I would keep checking with the shelter.
Maybe he is just saying that.
Did you look on FidoFinder and Craigslist and Petharbor to see if anyone posted her as missing?

Thanks Karen! I will keep checking! I looked for "lost" ads on Craigslist and another Utah website where people post lost animals before I called the animal shelter yesterday. I just checked FidoFinder and Petharbor and she was not listed on those sites either.
