Hi,

We went for a hike today and a few people were saying that he does not look like he is 6 month old (a few mentioned his tail feathering). So I'm starting to wonder if his date of birth the old owners gave me is the correct one... :uhoh: What do you guys think?

Looks perfectly normal for his age. Soon it will "uncurl" (not a good term but know no other way to describe it), but as it grows, it finally starts to hang down. To me a pretty tail is one of the main things I love about goldens, though mine have good looking tails, you need to see some of the pictures posted of some of the dogs owned by those here on the forum. Can make your eyes water (some even trim them)!!?? My two are a year & 1/2 and Coops tail is very respectable and beautiful when not full of mud, Kye's is shorter but very thick and matches her coat honestly.

Give your boy some more months and soon it will be the tail you recognise.

I have always loved when the breeders I know use unfurl.

World English Dictionary
unfurl (ʌnˈfɜːl)
— vb
to unroll, unfold, or spread out or be unrolled, unfolded, or spread out from a furled state

I love the nautical connotation. I always thought it was quite fitting.

My puppy is too old now, but it would be so cool if someone with brand new puppy would make a "Tale of the Tail" photo journal. Maybe taking tail shots every two weeks. So, many folks seem to have this question.

Sorry it took a little bit longer but here are two pictures. The first one was taken when he was about 6 months old and the second one when he was 10 months old. So there's only 4 months between the pictures and you can really see the difference. Between that time there was also some HEAVY shedding going on :p

Thank you guys for posting "tail" pictures and know many who have a golden for the first time wonder about this, but it is so good to see pictures where you can actually SEE the tail unfurl. Again, I love their tails the best!
