I seem to recall there being a post some time ago about horse blanket style coats for our goldens. We live in Northern Ontario and it gets pretty chilly. We have a nice coat for Seger but now that we live at the lake I am looking for a coat that covers his hips. Does anyone know of a web site that sells horse blanket style dog coats? I have tried to search but just keep coming up with the usual dog coats. I am thinking of the blanket type coat that extends from neck right the the base of the tail. Thanks for any suggestions.Carol

We sell Kool Coats by a company called Saratoga Horseworks. They started out with horse coats and now make winter and summer coats for dogs. They have a great product. I have never seen the winter coats in person but their Kool Coats are nicely made so I would assume the winter ones are similar.

Shedrow is a Brand of Horse Blanket that has been cut down and made dog size. My 2 goldens have a green/blue plaid ones. There is a lot more selection than on the website, if you want to order one, just ask while you have them on the phone. Their sizing is a little off as well, my 2 are small goldens, 45 and 55 lbs and i believe they wear an XL, go up one size from what they recommend.

How far north are you? They are located in Mississauga/Barrie and a few others.

I've been looking for something similar for my boy Oz. I've found, searching around, that the longer coats (ones that cover the hips/rump) are frequently referred to as "English Style." I found some great sites that make custom coats! This one is probably my favorite: Blue Willow Dog Coats: Our English Style and Western Style Coats ... but unfortunately, they're all out of my price range at the moment. I'm still on the hunt though, so hopefully people will keep sharing!

I am not sure you can get the Shedrow coats from Greenhawk in the States, they can be ordered online, but they are $29.95. When my old golden (15years) was swimming for therapy in the winter, the therapist recommended these to keep her warm after swimming and I ordered it one size to large so it would really cover her rump.

I am very happy with my shedrow dog coat. I got Lincoln the XL. It was a tad to large for him but I added a piece of extra velcro to the side to catch the extra flap when fitted snug but not to snug. Hes 60lbs. The XXL was like a Newfie or Great Dane size. Heres a couple pics of his to give you an idea of what it looks like.

Thank you so much for the quick responses. They are all exactly what I am looking for. I think based on where we are located, availability and shipping etc I am going to get one of the GreenHawk Shedrow coats. My sister also has one of these for her horse and swears by the quality. The prices, and shipping timelines and cost are very reasonable. It is minus 29C here today, minus 39C windchill. Needless to say trips outdoors will be short Seger has a nice jacket now but I just find it is not long enough and I want his hips covered.
