Your nose will tell you. Once you smell that, you will never, ever, forget!

Yup! I was going to say just that. Your nose will tell you.

Don't worry if you have not have them done.....I have NEVER had any of my pup's anal sacs expressed....never needed to.

I found that my 6 year old golden had to have hers expressed for the first time when I switched her to Acana. She stayed on Acana for approx 3 months, and had to have them done twice. I switched her back to her old food in September, as so far so good.

My last dog use to sit down abruptly for a few seconds and then get back up when she needed to have her anal glands squeezed. Or she would drag her butt on the ground a few seconds (nothing long) every now and then. The smell also gave it away.

This is what Diesel was doing too. He's actually been doing it again already... Can't tell if its because he needs to itch or if its his butt. We just had the glands emptied about 2 weeks ago! Can they fill that fast again?

Thanks for the tips. I haven't really smelled anything from Cassie, so I'm thinking she's good.

Well, there was one week Cassie had horrible flatulence (not so silent, and horrid smell), but that was due to a gradual food switch that didn't agree with her. Promptly switched her back to the old food, and the flatulence went away.

Every so often I smell something, but I think it's just flatulence, as it quickly dispurses and doesn't happen again.

Tucker and Tonka

Both my Golden Ret. and Samoyed have their anal glands expressed by their groomer, when we take them to be groomed every 3 months (if they need it, and they usually do.)
