I've heard about the outer banks, in North and South Carolina. But is it just me or are all of the houses really ugly inside? I'm looking for a home $1,200 or under. I've found a few houses in Destin and Panama City, but really they are either a block away from the beach or I can only afford it in the Winter. I'm all for going when it's cold, but am just wondering if my dogs would be a little sad that they can't swim in the ocean. Anybody got any advice for this? My pups have never been on vacation with us before, but I'm hoping with a little convincing they'll get to join in on the fun for once.

Isn't Destin and Panama City in Florida? I have never been to the outer banks but my in-laws go all the time and love it. They go in the spring and fall. We go to Hilton Head Island in the fall each year. I love it. We have had wonderful weather and the water is still warm and inviting. We all swim.

We're going to the Outer Banks in May with the dogs, and renting a house ocean-front that was dog friendly was affordable - we found a lot of options under 1200 for our time-frame. There are lots of weekly rentals in Nags Head NC & off season many are under$1200.I don't know what you consider "ugly" most in your price range will be what we call "beach boxes" so there simple but most are well kept up & have everything you need to be comfortable.The dog thing will also narrow your choices & be prepaired tp get an extra security deposit to cover them.I live in a small sub division on canals in Nags Head & the house next to me says no pets but they have been known to give in on many occasions.The owners bring their two labs down when they come to stay.Google cove reality in Nags Head they have the most pet friendly houses.If you'd like to PM me I'll send you the rental unit number for the house next to mine when I get home tonight.Your dogs can swim in the canal right behind the house.Jack & Sweetie love company!This is a bad time of year to come down here as most things & closed for the winter & the weather can be really raw.Wait untill closer to spring & you & the dogs will enjoy it much more.
