Hi, this is my first post. Our Golden boy Willie, is 6 months. This is our 2nd Golden, we lost our first boy last year at 13 ½. Willie is still having accidents inside, maybe once every two or three days. We’re teaching him to ring bells to go out, which he does most of the time. He has never had an accident in his kennel so I know he can hold it. He holds it 12 hours at night! He is only allowed freedom in the kitchen. If we’re not in the kitchen, he’s in the kennel. If we take him to any other part of the house he’s on a leash. Last night he and I were in the kitchen. I was reading, he was chewing a bone. Everything was calm! I looked down and he was lying on the floor peeing!! I took him to the vet today and he does not have a UTI. He does have an incomplete hypospadias, which the vet said was insignificant enough not to treat and wouldn’t cause any problems, just clean with a baby wipe every once in a while and keep the fur trimmed (he’s VERY furry). He was neutered at 5 1/2 months. Willie is much more aggressive than our previous Golden, very mouthy. We’re on our 3rd training class (first 2 weren’t very good). Any suggestions?
At 7 1/2 weeks. We purchased him from a very reputable breeder. Both parents are show dogs and we have their lineage going back many many generations (if that matters).
We haven't contacted a specialist. Our vet is well respected.
Your vet may be well respected but has he/she actually dealt with this condition? The great things about my vets is they don't have an issue referring my pups to specialists.
This could be an isolated incident but if it happens again I would consult a specialist. If Willie gets into a habit of not ringing and not insisting on going out it could be difficult to correct later on.
Another thought - Willie is entering adolescence. Often when that happens pups "forget" their training and it can be back to square one for a while. Try to be consistent with him and see what happens.
