I'm always curious to know where people came up with the names for their pets.

Why are your pets named what they are named?
Mine are...

Toothless-Dragon tailed bata fish. Got the name from How to Train your Dragon, because he is a dragon tail.

Comet-9year old female cat. DH got her for me for christmas 9 years ago, him and my best friend named her after the rain deer. Although I always think of the golden from Full house with that name.

Gozer- 8 year old male cat. We got him from the humane society and he came with that name. We assume it is from Ghostbusters. Gozer the Gozerian is the bad guy.

Milla- 8 week old golden. We wanted a christmasy name or a name from a movie like our other animals. After looking up a ton of names and going through the characters in our hundreds of movies the only one DH and i could agree on was Milla as in Milla Jovovich, the actress from Resident Evil.

Our first golden we got 25 years ago was Bucky....My husband was just stuck on that name! Our second golden (my heartdog) was named Baloo....the big gentle bear from the Jungle book...he looked so rolly polly and like a baby bear! We now have Mako....I wanted to name him Mowgli....Baloo's best friend...the boy in the Jungle Book...but we fish offshore a lot and we ended up with the name Mako...like the shark! It fits him well....especially when he had his puppy teeth!!!!

Rocket is a combination of reasons. The breeder had a "rock" litter theme. And we got him the day before July 4th. So we wanted something that was patriotic, but also incorporated the litter theme.

So, he is Gazebo's Let's Rock It. But Rocket for the call name, based on "The Rocket's Red Glare" from the national anthem.

My boyfriend and I couldn't agree on a name - we argued for months. Never landed on a name we both said "yeah - that's it."

Then my brother was sitting with us at a family dinner and started talking about Homeward Bound (the Disney) version and my boyfriend and I both went - Shadow! First time we agreed on the name, so that was it.

I will only talk about my current pets, lol, otherwise it would be a long post.

Thunder, my lab mix, came with the name from a kill shelter. We liked it and kept it. The people at the shelter named him.

Toby, my Golden, got his name, just because I liked it. I was torn between Jessie and Toby. But then, Toby sounded right and Jessie sounded a bit too girlish, lol. I had made a long list of names for Toby from the day I found out that his mom was pregnant with him and his siblings till I got him and still could not decide for a few days.

Dachsi, my dachshund, well he was a stray, did not know his name, neighbors that claimed he was not their dog, even though he was haning out on their porch till he got hit by a car, named him Elmer (Wabbit). I don't like the name Elmer. I called him Dachsi from the start when he would come and visit and follow me and my dogs around. When he found me after being hit by a car and the neighbors claimed no ownership and that he was a stray, he came to live with us and the name Dachsi stuck. Dachsi as in dachshund, of course I would say most Americans will pronounce it "Doxie".

Cuddles, my guinea pig got his name, because he would cuddle in my hands when I got him as a baby.

I love names with a meaning behind them.

Mikado my first APBT was named this as it is an honorary title for kings and emperors.

Vendetta my current APBT well.....I hate BSL we have a score to settle with people that think a breed is bad.

BaWaaJige.....I was having troubles figuring out what my golden was going to be called. I wanted something that meant something but totally different. He was a dream. BaWaaJige means harvesting your dreams. His AKC name is Topflights Reap What You Sow....lots of people think that when you say you reap what you sow it is all bad..I dont think so it anything you do has consequences.

I have no idea where Bentley's name came from. I went to see the puppies, picked up this puppy and put him on my chest. He melted into me and I said "You look like a Bentley". That was it, he had a name and I had a puppy. I didn't even look at the other puppies, I couldn't tell you what they even looked like.

Tucker - fell asleep every time he was picked up as a puppy, mom said "Look, he's all tuckered out" so the name Tucker was what it was!

Reece - she's a rescue...we dunno why she was named that, but we kept it cuz it suits her.

Pucci - my "designer dog" mutt. Thought it'd be funny to play off "Gucci". Plus my brother always says "Hi poochies!" when he sees the dogs so we just went with that hahah.

Charlie got his name, because it was the first name on our list that our whole family could agree on. We all had different ideas and we voted on each name but Charlie got the vote of all 4 family members. Other names considered were Lambeau (my favorite), Stanley, and Scooby.

Our first dog Bristol got his name because my husband and I were big Nascar fans. When we went to pick out a puppy we decided ahead of time that if we found a boy we liked we'd name him Bristol, and if we liked a girl puppy better we'd name her Daytona.
