Yes ....after a lot of talk, we made the decision to add the Gordon boy to our family ...I think our trainer is going to have a seizure .....Loki is the only large breed puppy in the CGC class, with all the rest being tiny pugs & terriers. I think she finds large puppies a lot more difficult than the tiny ones to train. There are only small breed puppies in the two puppy classes also. It seems that no-one is training their medium & large breed pups or dogs. Anyway, getting back to the Gordon boy .....we have arranged with the breeder to keep him for another three weeks, over the Christmas period, as we have family here, so would be too stressful to be trying to get him settled in with a crowded house. Also, we need to sort out sleeping arrangements, etc. so now we are trying to choose a name for him, as he is currently called Olo which neither of us like. As he has not done any training, changing his name shouldn't prove too much of a problem. We will visit again before Christmas, in order to allow Loki & this boy to spend time together, & for the boy to get to know us a bit better. Will post an update.

That's great--congrats! You're wise to wait for him to come home. It would be quite overwhelming at Xmas. And your trainer needs to get over it.

The Gordon I know is very fast! Your new pup will probably run circles around Loki. I'm not sure they are quite as trainable--I get the impressions GRs are more eager to please, but other dog people on here would know.

You're going to have a really busy household! Sounds like fun.

Yay, congratualitons, he's a beautiful Gordon. Looking forward to seeing lots of pictures of him while he's growing and also of Loki.

I just saw this thread and I am so excited for you all. And I have to tell you that I am so impressed with the mature and thoughtful way you and your husband have gone about this. It would have been very hard for me to walk away from that little boy, I'm sure it was for you too. But how wise of you to go about the whole thing by postponing his homecoming so you can wait till things are settled and your plan is in place. I'm very proud of you. Sometimes it's hard to be an adult, I think you will be so happy you're delaying gratification on this one.

I hope you will keep us updated on how things go and post lots of photos for us, I absolutely love Gordon and Irish setters and am going to be so interested to hear your stories. This is just wonderful, congratulations!!!!

I don't know the breed well at all - but I do know they are gorgeous. I don't see them much, if ever, around here. I bet Loki will love having a new friend. Good decision to bring him home after Christmas so you'll have more time to devote to getting him used to his new home, and training and everything. It also gives you time to come up with a new name!

yay....I'm so happy for you!!!! I get the waiting part too! When we found out Mia was pregnant and with the due date the pups were originally due to come home on Christmas eve, we had already decided to wait till after Christmas because we felt it wouldn't be fair to the puppy to come into that crazy time. Ultimately she was born late which puts her at the 27th, which is perfect for us as we are off for a week together and then I can work a limited schedule the next week...

I look forward to hearing about your boys as they grow...
