How much would a 4 year old Golden Retriever cost on average?
How much would a puppy golden retriever cost on average?
How much would it cost to maintain one every year? I'm pretty sure it would not take $1,000 to maintain them every year.
I just got a puppy two months ago. So far we've spent the following:
Rescued a 9 wk GR mix from a private rescue = $350
Starter supplies (crate, shampoo, leash, collar, tags, food bowls, food, food storage, chewies, toys, etc) $650
Initial vet visit = free bc he was a rescue
Puppy shots (round 2) $80
Puppy shots (round 3) $80
Puppy shots (last distemper and rabies) ~$45 we get this on Saturday.
Puppy kindergarten $160 (6 week training classes cost on average $195 where I live)
Dog license $30
More food (1-2 month supply) $45
More toys and chewies (cause mine goes through toys fast!) $50
I expect to spend another $200-$250 on food in the next 8 months
We'll probably do at least another two class which should run about $400
Since we're training, he goes thru one 4 lb natural balance log (cut into tiny pieces) once a month $12-20 ($96-160 for the next 8 months)
Right now, we've already spent $1,490 and anticipate spending another $800-1,000 in the next 8 months.
Obviously, you can look for discount supplies, maybe a used crate and leash and collar. You could use a less expensive food or go to a vaccine clinic.
I'm sure there are ways to lessen the expense, but I'm not sure $1000 a year is a realistic budget. Im not sure pf prices in your area, either.
Puppies are normally more expensive because of their puppy shots and spay/neuter.
