| Have a list, but don't be stuck on the names on the list. Sometimes you can have the whole family lined up behind a certain name... and then when the pup comes home, he just DOESN'T MATCH the name. ![]() When I brought Bertie home, I had a "short list" of names that I liked and even had registered names to go with them. o_O! S'Wonderful Life = George Bond James Bond = James Mikey Likes = Michael/Mike Goodtime Charley = Charley He came home and we spent the first day calling him every name possible to see what rolled off the tongue and what MATCHED him. My mom just saw a local production of Bye Bye Birdie and she decided that she liked either Hugo or Birdie. Hugo was a HUGE NO for me, so I worked with Birdie. But changed it to Bertie. That's why he's Bertie with 4 or 5 registration names I'm waffling around. >.< |

| Rick and I like sci-fi and made a list of all our favorite sci-fi people on shows we liked. We narrowed it down to about 4 or 5 names and then basically started calling our yet to be gotten dog using those names. We picked one that we liked calling, Tayla.

| Also put into consideration what nick names might come out of the name, especially if it is a name that can be shortened. I think most of us call our dogs by multiple nick names too.

| You can say that again. When we got Tayla she tried to climb a book case so I refered to her as monkey. Now as a term of affection I call her TaMonkey. So stupid I can't tell you, but I find my self calling her that. Makes no sense at all for a name.

| We knew we were getting a girl and wanted something southern-sounding. We did not want to go with anything related to the Tarheels, because it would have been too obvious. My parents and some friends even remarked things along the lines of, "Which player did you name her after?" and, "I suppose she will have a Carolina name..." We tossed around several ideas but nothing really jumped out at all of us until someone jokingly suggested, "Thelma Lou, after Barney Fife's" girlfriend!" We all love the Andy Griffith show and had a good laugh over what a silly sounding dog name that would be...and then an hour later we had worked into, "you know, I actually really like Thelma Lou..." and we all agreed! When we found out which puppy was ours she just looked like a Thelma Lou to us. I couldn't imagine her with any other name...Will she have a nickname? We'll see if one develops, but right now I'm looking forward to calling out "Thelma Looouuuu," at the park in my best Barney Fife voice.

| I had a ton of female names chosen for my pup but NONE of them fit her. It was a hard task for me to come up with a name for her.. she needed something that sounded girlie but not soft... so we chose Caira |
