Absolutely heartless. How in the world can someone share their home and care for another being for 12 years - and then cast him out in his final part of life? I can only hope he is rescued by someone with a huge heart.

I think this says a lot - and none of it good - about these people.

My sweet, joyful, beloved heart.

I should keep my hands off the keyboard but I have to say What kind of parents will they be. My heart breaks for the poor dog. Just so sad!

If a GR Rescue would be willing to take her, she will most likely become a permanent foster with a family and be allowed to live out her remaining days.

Is there another family member or friend that could take her?

I'm working on getting him a proper home...they live in Colorado and I live in DC, but, if my mom can take him, my brother lives in Colorado and is driving home for Christmas, so if my mom can take him and my brother can pick him up, I can find him a home.

Bless you! Oh bless you! This made me smile. I was so sad! I couldn't even think about giving up my cats after 12 years together - and they barely tolerate me! (lol)

He deserves a soft, warm bed and some love when he wants it; a belly full of delicious food, and as many dream-animals he can chase. Not a cold, wet concrete cell where everyone will overlook him b/c of his age.

I'm hoping for the best! If this works out, please give your mom and brother a giant bear hug from me!

Please keep us updated. I cannot image how people could be so heartless. At least they could have attempted to find that senior dog a loving home to go to. When I was fourteen, my father took me on a visit he was making ....it was to an orchard, where he was visiting some man I didn't know. The guy had a lovely cocker spaniel of five years old. I spent time playing with it then, as we were leaving, the guy asked me if I wanted the dog, because it was useless at retrieving when he went duck shooting, & he was getting another dog & was going to shoot this poor dog that evening. It was perfectly healthy & well behaved. I was absolutely horrified & dreadfully upset. I begged my father to let me have it, but my pleas fell on deaf ears ...we had never had a dog. When I got back home, I got on my bike & dashed around to the young teacher who taught me French at school, as I knew she had two cocker spaniels & might possibly take this poor spaniel in, to save its life. Unfortunately, no-one was home & a neighbour told me they were away for the weekend. I was truly heartbroken at the thought of this dog being shot in a few hours & cried a lot about it, but my parents would not take it. Forty-six years later, I still remember sitting in the long grass on a warm sunny Saturday afternoon, surrounded by fruit trees, playing with that beautiful spaniel. I do hope these people will be willing to wait for you to organise a new place for this pet.

That is such a sad story. How can anyone be that cruel? Still waiting to hear from my mom and brother, but, in the mean time, here is the handsome boy.

So sad. So not the world I want to live in. Poor dog and well I will end there. There just are no words left to say. I pray for a good home ...

The dog gave them the best years of his life and now the family should take care of him now during his last remaining time when he needs them most, not give him up. He obviously was "only a dog" to this family and not a family member.

We adopted our Rhett at age 7 from a family who didn't want him anymore either because of a new child in their family and he gave us the most wonderful last 7 1/2 years of his life, so this family doesn't realize what they are missing.

I really hope he gets another home soon to a family that will love him for the time he has left.
