Hi my name is amber, and on 11/14/2012 in virginia beach, virginia my golden pup of 8 months named toby was stolen from my backyard around 2pm.he is a dark golden color, very friendly and has alot of energy. im trying to get the word out to people in the hope and prayer of his return.. he is deeply missed by my husband, me and my two children... were hoping for a safe return. its been two weeks and we have heard nothing. were just starting to worry that were not going to find him.

Was he microchipped? Did you file a police report--any reason why you think he was stolen as opposed to getting loose? Hopefully you're posting on Craigs List in your area daily with lost dog posts, posted bright colored signs at major intersections, gone door to door with fliers, notified animal control and all shelters (and visit the shelters). Lost Dog Illinois on Facebook provides great tips in searching for lost dogs--you might want to see if there is something similar for your area. Best of luck in finding your pup!

yes he is microchipped.. we have filed a police report and there is an amber alert on him... were pretty sure he was stolen because that day a strange man came to the door seeming to try to distract my mother when i was not home, shortly after we realyzed the dog had been missing. he has never jumped the fence before and we usee baby gates for my children that are shorter then the fence and he never jumped them. i put ads on craigsliist and other lost dog sites through facebook. he is also registered through lostmyoet.com

Amber, take flyers with his photo around to all the veterinarians in the area, too. Put on the flyer that he was stolen, so please check for a chip on any new clients. I'm very sorry this has happened to you. It happened to me when one of my goldens was four years old, and we never did get him back. Fingers crossed that you have a happy ending!

Please don't limit your search based on the thought of stolen. Here is a link to the Illinois Lost Dog site which gives tips on how & what & where to post signs and other tips to search for a lost dog. Also, if you see any postings on craigs list offering to sell a golden call and pose as a buyer--there's currently one on there now with a guy promising a low fee for a golden whose owner died--you never know.
