Ranger didn't care about the mice invading my house for the first little awhile. Then he realized they were fun to chase and even more fun to catch and kill. Now he routinely hunts the mice out in the yard...his kill count this fall is 4.

I hate mice. They are so sneaky! I remember when I was little and my grandpartents had mice, my grandpa would put a piece of ham that was burned a bit and we heard a SNAP and he was so happy he finally caught the mouse only to find out he didn't. The little rascal was able to take the piece of ham from the trap and escape.

And Chester has only seen a rat outside, I live in the city and those things are HUGE! He tried playing with it but the rat knew better haha

My old golden girl was useless when I found evidence of mice in my townhouse. The mousetraps with peanut butter were moderately successful in the garage, but I still found evidence of them inside. I went to the riding stable and asked to borrow a cat, that was a "mouser". It was a barn cat, and caught mice for survival, two weeks later he went back to the barn with a large bag of cat food. I have not seen evidence of a mouse since, and that was 10 years ago.

For the ants, you can spread diatomaceous earth around the area where they are entering. It is safe for dogs, although messy, and I have never had another ant problem. You can buy it at Home Depot etc, in pesticides, for under $10. Apparently, it has a lot of other uses to, including treating dogs for internal parasites, although I have never heard of it. Here is an interesting link, I don't know how accurate this information is.

Thanks. I would need to acquire a cordless drill, which, financially speaking, would have to wait until into December. I do keep finding myself needing a cordless drill for various things, though, so it might be a wise investment at some point. I just don't do much in the way of handy work (I'm very bad at it and don't have much living space to maintain), so I keep holding off and holding the screwdriver set I was given 5-6 years ago as a gift will work for things, but there are some jobs it won't do.

I think step two if these mousetraps don't work will be the glue based mouse traps and maybe some better quality wooden traps.

One issue I found is that Wal-Mart has converted it's entire outdoor/pest control section into a Christmas store (Way too early in the year if you ask me), but I was able to find the cheap wooden traps at the dollar general. A real hardware store should give me a better selection if necessary.

I already have squirrels. They're located beneath the porch on the apartment above me, and above a storage room in my apartment. Fortunately, the landlord repaired the storage room ceiling so they stay in that space, but I can hear them. Word is there is a hole in the building in an adjacent yard the landlord doesn't own. I'd like him to go back there with a ladder or something and fix that, but he doesn't open that property and is extremely slow on repairs to what he does own. I have to patient with him because I know him and he gives me a good deal on rent. I keep reminding myself in the grand scheme of things the location of the squirrels makes them a relative non-issue.

Thanks for the link. I bookmarked it to look into later. Probably not something I'll pursue now, but possibly for the spring when things get bad. One issue with laying down dirt is that the the dog likes to track in mud and bites me when I wipe his paws off. I am not sure I want to put dirt at the entrance from the yard that he and I use several times a day. But maybe.

Usually I use those cheap poison-based ant traps, and put them up on countertops and stuff where the dog doesn't go (He's not a countersurfer- and there is no peanut butter involved, so his interest is marginal to begin with ). Sometimes some spray if that isn't working fast enough. None in stock at the homestead right now, though. I should probably buy some soon because of the peanut butter mouse traps, but money is tight and I may wait to see if it becomes an issue.

I think you might want worry about the squirrels, they tend to chew wiring. I had a neighbor whose house caught on fire because of the tree rats in the attic.

As for you mouse, borrow a cat, if we were closer I would lend you our Lelo, or better known to the mice of Oswego as Cujo Kitty
