Hi, I'm new to the forum

About 5 months ago I got my first dog. It's a golden retriever girl that is now about 7 months old. Her name is Duppy.

I live in a major Chinese city and there are not many places here where I can walk my dog without her leash on, except one. There are some mountains/hills just across the road from where I live and there are so few people walking there (and no traffic) that its perfectly OK to have her off the leash there. Besides its a beautiful place to hike up.

This week I took her up the mountains two days in a row on my days off work. I thought it would be a great workout for her and I really enjoy walking her off leash.

However, now I'm a little worried that walking up the mountain might be a bad idea. Basically the path up the mountain are stairs made from stone. The incline varies greatly but is very steep in some places. Duppy doesn't seem to mind and it seems she also loves being able to run up and down without her leash on.

I was thinking of taking her for this walk once a week but I have some friends telling my I should avoid walking her up the mountain, that it can hurt her.

Do you have any advice for me? I had a great time walking her there and she seemed to enjoy it a lot as well. I'd hate not being able to do it, but Duppy's health and well being is of course the most important.

it is not a problem as long as you are sure to take a ton of rest breaks... remember puppies want to please you and will keep going even if they are tired or sore becaue they want to keep up with you and do what you want them to do ... the thing about young pups is to protect those joints the walk itself is not a problem as long as there are plenty of rests and times for that pup to relax, you also have to be aware of your pups signals to you regarding being tired and when enough is enough
