I am out of ideas. I am defeated, I feel like we let Koda down so badly this time.

When she was a puppy she did the jumping/mouthing crap like a lot of dogs on here I have heard about. We were understanding then as she was little and we figured it was a phase they went through. We got through it...now it is back and she is a big girl now! She 19 months and this is happening. I feel like we have tried everything - changing the route, changing the length of the walk, training on the walk, playing before the walk...nothing works. It seemed to have happened with the change in weather. If it is windy or cold it is bound to happen. I dont get it...am I just not supposed to walk her in the cold months? I feel so terrible, she loves her walks and so do I, that was my favorite part of the day with her. DH is out of town right now until Thursday so of course I am on my own dealing with this.

I can't control her at all when she is doing it, nothing works. I tried being calm, tried getting her in a sit and training, tried raising my voice a bit to sound more firm, nothing! She is in her own world and she doesn't get it at all that we are mad.

The only thing left to do is completely ignore her until she is done but that could take a long while. And she is mouthing/biting kinda hard on my arms while she does it so that won't be fun either...I just dont know what to do, I feel like a total failure as a doggie mom.

Try shaking a small can with pennies in it when she does it. We found a snuff can on the street which fits into a pocket well. When we first got Ben he would do the same thing sometimes. Making a metalic noise distracted him from his tantrum. We only had to do it about 3 times before he stopped attacking the leash and the person on the other end of the leash.

Also, have you tried running with her? She wants freedom, and the next best thing is moving fast. Another option is a long leash, if you are in an area where there is room for her to run a bit. Let her explore, then call her back, reeling her in if necessary.

I second what Ginny says!
We took our Golden to a trainer and she haid to get a 12 oz. empty Pepsi of Coke bottle and fill 1/4 way with pennies. Give it a couple sharp shakes with your wrist when dog is misbehaving, to DISTRACT the dog from the behavior.

I am definitely trying this either tonight or tomorrow morning. I can totally see how this would work. I will be sure to have treats with me too so if she does stop I can reward her right away! Thanks so much, I have some hope again!

You are right-as soon as she sits or does whatever behavior you want PRAISE HER and give her the TREATS!!

You have to be consistent with this and keep the bottle or can handy at all times. This really worked on our Smooch, who really had a JUMPING problem, especially when people came to visit!

I've been using Pet Corrector spray for Bentley In The Company of Animals Pet Corrector Sprays | PetEdge.com
I have used the pennies in a can for all of my dogs but Bentley acted like it was a game (he's bull headed) so I bought this can and it's made a world of difference for us! It's just air that sounds a lil loud, just to get his attention and boy does it ever!
We've been working on our turns and heel while on walks and since I started with the can he's about 95% on walks now.
He was getting bad about meeting people on the street, he wanted to jump up to greet them, one short spray and he sits politely to greet. (of course I have taught him all these things before hand, the sound just reminds him)
I use it in the house too (it's always in my pocket). I felt we were using words too much with him, Bentley NO, Bentley Leave it, Bentley down, so now I don't say anything just one quick spray and he snaps to attention and stops doing what he was doing. It doesn't scare him nor hurt him because you don't spray at him just spray to make the noise.
He has started humping everything in sight but now I spray and he stops. I don't know how something so simple works but it does. I almost didn't buy it because I thought no way will that work. It was the best $5.00 I've ever spent.
In fact yesterday I ordered another small can for my pocket and a LARGE can for home

WHAT exactly is Koda doing on walks. Is she jumping and biting the leash? I was reading some of your other threads. Has Koda had a complete physical and has her thyroid been tested. what does the vet think?

We have used canned air with Tayla and while I can't prove it the day we started using it was the day she stopped biting. We don't spray her, in fact like the can, the point is to startle her to stop the behavior and have her wonder where the sound came from. We only used the can a few times before we found out that making the sound ourself works the same way for her. I've had to make that sound maybe once or twice a day and yesterday was 9 days without mouthing/biting.

My can is getting low so yesterday I tried to make the sound myself, Bentley pointed and laughed at me (ok maybe he didn't but it felt that way ) so I ordered more. Boy will Bentley be disappointed to see what the mailman brings
