| What's the best formal wear for your Golden? I've always said that a true Golden is a wash-and-wear dog that looks good in any season or any situation. However, like a gorgeous person, a gorgeous dog needs to accessorize well when it's time to dress up. So what's the best collar for a formal occasion? What's the absolute best accessory for a good looking dog? When we go around to family events for the holidays, I like to wash the dogs, clean their ears, trim their nails, and groom them out and then pretend that I haven't done anything special, as if they always smell of oatmeal and vanilla and have incredibly clean coats with no effort on our part. I'm searching for the perfect collar for these occasions. We use nylon plaid collars we got at Target for day-to-day stuff, since they handle water and mud well and I can just throw them in the washer after a messy walk. For formal events, my instinct is to go with something like a fancy LL Bean leather collar with a brass name plate. I've had these before, and they're really, really nice. I also feel like the leather collars look really good on a sporting breed dog like a Golden. But does anybody else have other ideas? What looks best on your dog? Do you think coat color is something to think about when you pick the leather collar or the pattern and color on a cloth collar? Any awesome collar sites I should look at? Any bold choices? No rhinestones, please! ![]() I know my tone is a bit silly here, but I really do enjoy the reception my dogs get for being handsome and polite, especially when we go to big events with my fiancé's family, and I want to figure out a picture-perfect collar to have around for special events. |

| I prefer rolled collars as they are easier on the longer coats of my girls. So Banker gets the same. I tried the red leather ones for holidays, but the dye does come off on their coats. For fun, I will put a 1 1/2" ribbon around their neck. |

| I was reading through this post, and the whole time I was envisioning a collar, like on a tux, and really thinking this is what you were talking about. And I was thinking, wow, that's pretty cool-when he takes his dogs to holiday dinners, they are all decked out in their tux collars (but was going to ask you to post photos of what you have used in past). Then I realized you meant dog collars.... |

| Not silly at all! When I know there will be company I always spruce my guy up! Quote:
Goldens are so beautiful they deserve to be made a fuss over and be adored with only the finest! If I was to get a leather collar this is the one I have been eyeing Custom Dog Collars 1 wide MOONSHINE LUX XL by BullyMolosserMart but in dark brown and with different color jewels than shown in the pic. Let us know what you choose!!

| I used to get Bear collars for the different holiday seasons. In general, I personally feel that goldens look best in royal colors-red, blue, purple

| I love the collar ideas, and the tux collars. I also think a nice brightly colored neckerchief is a handsome thing on a dog. Tucker has blue collar and Bella's is black with a pink pattern. I think Goldens look best in bright colors myself, but the coats I bought last year are a muted green and they look pretty good... It's fun to get them a bit dressed up, and I think they know when they are. |

| Okay... I'll be honest that I don't really buy too many collars. Both our dogs (Arth and Jacks) have rolled leather collars that are for going out in public. Jacks is green and Arth is reddish brown. And that's because they look nice and are fairly conservative - don't take too much attention away from the coat itself. Arth's collar was actually bought for him since the previous owner had some kind of slip collar that we didn't want. Jacks wears all of Danny's old collars. Now if you are talking special events - like holidays? ![]() Jacks also has a red jingle bell collar and reindeer antlers that he gets to wear to my work (should I work up the courage to take him to my last day before I'm transferred). Arthur has a jester collar too. |
