Itchy scratchy

Lily has been itching for some time now. During the winter my vet said everything was fine and that it was probably just the weather. Well she still scratches a lot and sometimes her back, by her tail, flakes. I've given her fish oil as recommended by my vet, but hasn't really helped the itching. The flakes were gone but still scratches. I think maybe she just scratches like any other normal dog. She had a full examination at the vet yesterday and I told them about the itching but they said her skin and coat were perfect. Her coat is super shiny and soft and she is on monthly flea prevention. I still check her for fleas, but never see any on her unless she's just been outside, but there are usually just a few and they're usually dead or dying, so I don't think the problem is fleas. I've tried many different shampoos and conditioners. Any recommendations for a good quality shampoo and conditioner that might help the itching?

Search for "Apple Cider Vinegar" here on the Forum. EXCELLENT for any/all itchies. Read what other people have said about it.

And, please read in full this link ("Apple Cider Vinegar" is usually called "ACV")

Apple Cider Vinegar for Dogs

Very Important: If you decide to get it, ONLY get the ORGANIC "Apple Cider Vinegar". The best brand to get is Braggs sold at the Health Food store, e.g., Whole Foods, or the health food section of your supermarket

Are you using " toxic" flea products? I hope not. These can cause more problems than the fleas them selves..... and most come with warnings about NOT getting them on your skin..... makes you wonder.... The flea products you put on their skin once a month is a toxic chemical that gets into their blood stream.

Here's some info from the ACV site above re fleas, etc.:

"Fleas, flies, ticks and bacteria, external parasites, ring worm, fungus, staphylococcus, streptococcus, pneumococcus, mange, etc., are unlikely to inhabit a dog whose system is acidic inside and out. "

Disclaimer: I am NOT a vet, just a concerned pet owner. I DO put Frontline on Lacey once/month. I'm only using the ACV for a couple of skin issues, and it's cleared it up nicely.

Yes staying on top of the flea problem is key... I use 20 mule team borax on my carpets during the summer IF and when when the issue seems to crop up here in the Pacific NW. That keeps the critters off of the carpet. A lot of being free of fleas has to do with the dogs diet and what you supplement also. Fleas and mites tend to attack animals with weak immune systems.... the toxic products and chemicals just weaken the immune system more so it becomes a vicious cycle. A raw diet- with supplements to address immune health is key for me. I am an advocate for nutrition and good lifestyle..... I just do the very best I can to NOT use anything chemical in my household.
