One month ago to the day...right after our first significant snow. Her nose was jet black. I even blew the picture up to make sure. Must be snow nose.

Yukon's is very slightly snowy on top. We live in Texas though so maybe its not as cold here even though we had a pretty good "snow" on Christmas and there have been a few chilly days.

I read snow nose is related to lack of sunlight/vitamin D. Molly's nose is still black, but when the sun comes out I tell Molly to soak up that vitamin D.

Oh does it have to do with sunlight? Because I always notice dogs that stay in the sun a lot it bleaches their noses and they turn pink from too much sun. That is what I thought anyway.

I think so. Snow noses turn back to black in the summer. If it is poor/lack of pigment the color will not return.

The stuff I found is all over the map. There are a lot of theories, but no proven cause.

AKC says "No definitive answer." http://classic.akc.org/press_center/...k_AKC/0108.cfm

The roof of Bella's mouth is black, if that truly means anything (I have no reason to doubt Sally's Mom). We'll see.

Nugget's dam had a light nose and now that he is two he has developed one as well. As a puppy he had a little lump of coal for a nose but it has faded gradually over time. His two treat spots are still visible but they are also lighter than they were. His lips, however, are nice and black.

The roof of Molly's mouth is black too.. It would be great to keep that black nose but I think I've already accepted that permanent lightening comes with age.

Honestly, never bothered to look before...but all of my six adult dogs have black on the roof of their mouths You have seen my previous posts about nose color. Only Emmie is not as dark as the rest, but none of the current dogs have a pink nose, ever.
