You can get kicked out of a conformation class, if it is determined you blackened the nose. Of all of my dogs, Sally had a black nose that never faded until she died at 12.5 years. My Laney had a pink nose, starting at about two. Cookie started with a black nose that became dark brown around 2.5 years. Of her three pups that I have, 10.5 year old Mantha has a black nose, never changes, her brother, George gets a snow nose, returns to black, and 1/2 sister , Tiki, has a jet black, never fading nose at 8.5 years. Of Mantha's offspring 1/2 siblings Mick and Basil, Mick at 5.5 has a black nose that fades a little in Winter, but comes back, and Basil at 3.5 has a jet black nose, like, Mom. Tiki's daughter, Em had a gorgeous black nose, but started to fade at 2.5 years. Basil's daughter, Gabby has a jet black nose, but she is only 5.5 months. Friends of mine look at the roof of the dog's mouth to evaluate how good the pigment will be...
