Hey Everyone,
I have Sonny who is a pretty big 80 pound 14-month old boy. My wife and I took him to some beginner training when he was a puppy and for the most part he is a good boy. He knows how to do basic obedience. Sit, stay (to a degree), down, shake, even some roll over. But when you take that dog out and try and walk him on a leash...well you know how the story ends. He is a big time puller and my wife has a hard time controlling him sometimes. He still jumps up on people. And he loves to play fetch but doesn't like to bring the ball back. I am an orthopedic surgery resident and my wife is a pharmacist so we don't have a ton of time off. I tried to take him to some private sessions, but I found I couldn't really do it on a consistent basis with my schedule. Needless to say, we need some training and I am looking into one of those in-kennel training things where he goes and stays a couple weeks and they take a crazy amount of my money haha.
I am willing to pay the money if it results in a well trained dog. I know I will continue to have to hammer the training into him afterwards, which is fine, and I hate to cop out and take the easy way out, but I need someone to lay the foundation for me when time is so scarce. Does anyone have any experience with the in-kennel training. I haven't been able to find many in Alabama but I found one that is 6 weeks for 1700, and another one is 2 weeks for 2400. 6 weeks seems like a little long, but I think that person does the dog training as a part time thing whereas the 2-weeker is more of a single business. I know both of them use e-collars. Any recommendations or thoughts on your own experience would be extremely helpful. Thank you so much!
