Lately I've been struggling with keeping Diego's attention on the food during training sessions to walk next to me. Unless I have ham, turkey, or chicken, he isn't really interested. We've been going farther and farther on our walks so I'm guessing the value of the food is going to have to get higher anyways.
But what I was really wanting to say is, when I put a backpack on him, it really made a difference in his walking! I think I need to do that more now that training is going up a few levels. I run with him first, and it gets him more relaxed to walk at my pace. Sometimes he acts like I'm too slow for him. Because if I run, he ends up dragging at the end of the leash back behind me like a big baby. If I walk faster, he's fine walking next to me. I think we are going to need to work on him walking at MY pace on these newer roads we've been going on.
It's kinda funny, when we're walking near our house where he's used to walking nice, he drags behind. But once I start going towards a new direction he gets faster.
I really recommend getting a doggy backpack if you have a dog that pulls/training loose leash walking!
Here's an older photo of him wearing it...
