The weather is turning crisp in my area, and the dogs are loving it :)

Plans, accomplishments, logs, questions, brags or frustrations to share?

A fairly busy month coming up for us with Brady branching out :)

Okay, so far.

I am in 2 online classes, several online subscription memberships (OMD, BDA, Kathy Keats Winners Circle, various Say Yes) plus a new accountability for nutrition and fitness group led by a BeachBody coach to see us through the holiday season.

Still ramping up for some Nov trials and for this month:

- 3 rentals so far
- Brady is in obedience classes on Tue & agility on Thu
- all 4 dogs have run thrus
- Brady has 2 agility trials (his first :) )
- Brady will be measured for agility in a trial tomorrow

I am still waiting for Ms Towhee to go into season so no trial entries for her
Faelan, Brady & Aedan all have trials in Nov so I am working on a few things there

Looks like unless I move a vet appt (rabies booster for Brady), I will not be making any drop in rally or obedience classes on Saturdays this month.

no training per se today, however, Brady & I too a ride up to a fairly local agility trial (a little over an hour north) and walked around for a bit, met up with my instructor, had Brady measured with a few friends greeting him (he did well with most folks, not so fond of a smoker) and then had his 2nd measurement with a different judge and VMO. More friends greeting him as we walked around some more and again he did well and was uber relaxed for the most part. A few folks had him saying uh-uh but only the smoker was a person I know - the other was a little boy bouncing a basketball (in a Sports Dome - actually the same Sports Dome he got so upset at a few years ago).

So I now need to decide if I get a 3rd measurement - Brady kind of makes himself smaller when he is uncomfortable and so measured at 2 different jump heights; if he is uncomfortable at a 3rd measurement he will be in the 20 inch classes (16 when he gets old and runs in preferred). But I can actually run him at 24 without a problem now and then get the 3rd measurement somewhere down the line :)

No problems with the airlocks, no problems with stopping at the score table to let the trial sec'ry for his debut know he no longer needs to be measured and generally up & strutting :) Good boy!! I actually stopped at BK to get the boy a treat he did so well :)

Got a BRAG
Nugget won Utility B today with a 197 out of 23 teams . He earned 20 OTCH points bringing his total to 52. He also got 27 more OM points and he got a 1961/2in OpenB and got fourth place . This was his 5 leg toward his UDX3 and he now has all the first places needed to go for that OTCH.
the " Challenge " Qd in Open B with a 192 of course he had to stop in the middle of an exercise and SCRATCH AGAIN but he only did it once as compared to 3 times in the last two trial so I got to say he is improving ever so slowly but improving.

Today because of all the rain yesterday my yard is soaked with standing water on top of the grass in spots so training is out , I know I could do some heeling on the street and articles in the house but the boys deserve a day off so I'll wait till tomorrow at club. Yesterday Hombre wasn't as wild but he did get distracted on the heel free. So I need to focus on attention with him .

Yesterday I had my first training session with my new puppy. We worked on recalls, fronts, drops, retrieves, and scent discrimination. I never would have thought you could do so much with a 4.5 week old pup. I also trained one of his sisters, after watching the breeder do training sessions with the first two sisters.

This morning is crisp but the ground is wet ( yah!! - good for drought) so no jumping. Distractions were bits of cheese among the fallen leaves (Aedan learned Phoooie) and also my wearing a dark bathrobe in dim lighting - yep I train in my jammies some mornings :)

Heeling with signals
> Faelan really nice, Towhee nice but I was close, Brady needed resets while Aedan was distracted bu the food (no signals - he had a few forms of drops)

Heeling with sends to the teeter - all dogs really nice except a few slight wides from Aedan as he explored if his nose could go down (nope) while he heeled LOL Its Yer Choice games to a higher level between the scents, the leaves and the cheese !

Weave poles - again in the dim light. Both Faelan & Towhee popped #10, Brady missed his entry and Aedan is learning to stick pole 6 to 7

Nice sessions :) I prefer mistakes in training to their exploring options in trials LOL

Articles with both boys done with 2metal and 2 leather very nicely done not only the correct article gotten each time but the turns in place were straight all sends were brisk fronts other than one of Hombre's straight and all finish' s were straight. A pretty nice way to start our training today. Club this afternoon and I will do ALL other exercises in both utility and open with each of my boys. I'm sure it will be busy today because several trials in the area are upcoming shortly.

This morning we worked:

Heeling with verbal & signal starts.

Signals for the older dogs with rewards for sticking the stand (not moving and not sitting when I turned) Brady had shortened distance and verbals - Aedan had some Drop work rather than signals (I can now fully circle him)

More heeling with sends to the weaves (oh Aedan, he gets so excited he cannot stick his poles) and then teeter time

Broad Jump completed each dogs session with food tosses, front and a finish

Fun :)

Last night at club Nugget was at the top of his game doing a very nice job in both open and utility . Then there is Hombre my wild child who last night decided that the #2 glove was a better choice than was #1 which had to be repeated at least 6 more times before he finally took my direction . ( HARD HEADED ) After this we again went through the " take it " and " out " phase as he was not in a giving mood. Then it was the signal exercise's turn to have several resets as he knew better than me the exercise and anticipated the down well before I gave the signal. In open we did a little better without any major mistakes. At 4:00 o'clock we do group sits and yesterday I was talking to a lady who is a friend of mine for years and I forgot to get the dogs in the ring till the others were leaving it. It was a busy afternoon and giving run thrus and my class had a large number in it , very full day. Hope Nugget does as well at this Sat. Trial as last Sat.this one only has 16 utility dog and 23 in open but it's a LOT closer home.

Nugget today again did a nice job, open exercises were all pretty clean other than the front on the BJ no utility exercises because I used the time working with Hombre who today did a nice job in utility . He would have had a qualifying score in the low to mid 190s . His turn in place on the #3 glove was quite wide as he needed to back around going to the left but we will fix this Nuggets were like this too when he was younger. Hombre broke both the long sit and the long down in the group exercise as he wanted to go visiting. It's always something with him.

Fun class tonight with Brady - he is becoming comfortable enough to be naughty LOL People who have not seen this side of him were impressed - not just that he can be naughty but how awesome he can work LOL

We practiced:

> Go Outs and Directed Jumping
> DOR, ROF, ROHJ
> Signals
> OOS stays

10 people in the class plus instructor's dogs so a lot of activity, plus one girlie freshly out of season and another who went into season today wearing her panties -- maybe Brady wanted to impress them both since they are both goldens :) :)

no training this morning! Mesmerized watching some of the videos from the GRCA nationals and my Sunfire kinfolk routines. Amazing teams!

Towhee's son Jimi (Sunfire's Whiz Kid) is doing very, very well -- happy, upbeat, precise and beautiful. Sincerest gratitude to his owner Kathy for doing such an awesome job with him - their love for each other shines!

Articles done by both boys 2x each articles very nice only 1 poor front on Hombres part Nugget was dead on . Of course it pouring out AGAIN so no training outside which messed up my plans but there is my 15 minutes tonight in the utility ring at SCKC so I guess it will be for Nugget as he is showing Sat.in utility.

Training tonight was just ok . Nugget was a little sloppy blowing a couple fronts , lagging on a about turn , not very brisk coming or going but doing everything. Hombre did all open exercises and was a little more into working than was Nugget and his heeling was better. Fronts are coming along especially when given a little help and he did not get distracted for a change.

Lovely morning to spend some time with the dogs :)

> Heeling with signals for Faelan, Towhee & Brady and heeling with by my side drops with Aedan. Brady is creeping on the signals so I will need to address that -- possibly teaching him to drop behind a jump bar.

> Go Outs with directed jumping - lovely all dogs, a few fronts were not perfect but the principal parts were really nice!

> Weaves ; Aedan had the most problems while the difficult right side sends caused some missed entries with the older dogs (that is what training is about right? make it more difficult in training than it will be at trials )

> Rear cross to full height teeter : Faelan, Towhee & Brady did great!! Aedan bailed so needed a repeat but then was fine :)

Love mornings like this - would have been perfect if I had gotten out of bed earlier and taken a hike with them

The day before a trial I don't usually like to train the boys but because Hombre has been breaking sits and downs lately I thought it might be a good idea to do them . It. Was a success . After the s+d we did some heeling in the street and fig8 around my cones on the driveway. Hombre did a good job today hoping his good work today carries over tomorrow.

<sigh> Towhee went AWOL for several minutes this morning and the boys (Brady and Aedan) are getting snarky ... she may be heading out to Camp Sunfire soon. All of them are doing the nose up her butt, obsessively cleaning her, mussing her fur thing etc and she of course is loving it!! little hussy flipping onto her back and teasing them all LOL

Today I plan on setting up the dogwalk again, and spending some time on dogwalk, teeter, tire and agility broad jumps - I may actually get my agility broad jumps out or possibly just put jump posts at the corners of my obedience broad jump that is already out.

Towhee & Brady both go to the vets at 2pm for rabies boosters - Towhee is not due until early Dec but in CT if you are late you need to get a booster in 1 year rather than 3 years and with her possibly being in season when she is due we decided to go in and have her boostered early.

Trial result today

Hombre 196 Open B

Nugget 198 open B 3rd place. 1 OTCH point 15 OM POINTS
Nugget 195 utility 4 th place no enough teams for OTCH points for a fourth place but 12 OM Points and another UDX leg.
I thought Nugget would have scored higher as he was really hitting the f+ f today and the only thing he screwed up was the first go out but his mistake couldn't possibly be scored for more than 2 points and that was if the judge had a real sharp pencil. Regardless I was pleased with both boys today and they were wound up even Nuggetbwas fired up in work mode. Utility only had 6 qualifying teams out of the fourteen that showed 2 were absent but open had 26 teams with 3 absent.

Congrats NuggetsDad !!

Showing 2 dogs in Open is impressive!! Do you have a backup handler in case of combined groups? Or are classes generally large enough in your area to be sure of separate groups?

#25 ·
>Sharon so far in the 6 trials Hombre has showed in all had large enough entries for at least 2 groups for s+d but I ask the judge to put us at the end because of a possible conflict which all have allowed so far but the Freeport show so many NQ that I had to have a friend who was there take Nugget for s+d and I took the " Challenge " this person was one whose dog had already NQ . If I couldn't get someone and both qualified Hombre would lose out as for right now I'm just trying to get him ring experience he already has his CDX but lacks maturity and experience but his attention to me is getting better

I don't know why, but I left for my rental about 45 minutes before I usually do -- it is normally about 1.25 hours. Well today there was an accident in Hartford (CT) which took me about 45 minutes to get through :) So all was good. Because I had my scent articles with me, I had just enough time to stop at a full service gas station over the MA line to fill up. This is at the noisy & active Soda & Dog Food place with grooming, can returns etc

All the dogs did well -- Aedan was dropping by my side and staying while I walked around :) Not bad, little one, not bad at all :)

First out: Ring entrances, Signals, Go Outs, Directed Jumping.
Second out: Heeling with about turns and slow, ROF, ROHJ
Third out : Heeling with left turns & stands out of motion, recalls (straight, drop, straight except Aedan all straight), glove #1 (all gloves out)
Fourth out : Figure 8, scent articles (except Aedan)

We did not do broad jumps or stays

Overall, really really nice sessions :) Towhee tended to look away for signals but caught them out of the corner of her eye, she also did not want to pick up metal but did without prompting -- huge reward!! Otherwise everything was really nice. Very few finishes
