I was debating about saying anything about today since it was... well, probably a mistake going to class. o_O
Yes, we had fog, rain, ice, and flooding... and add darkness, there was a nasty glare effect off the road that made it difficult to see anything. o_O
I didn't want to go out in that, but yes, I did.
I got there late and only had 5 minutes to train Bertie. That was in front of an audience, as everyone was there. I think even our instructor got to see him at the tail end. The good thing is - we have been working very hard on focus and footwork. So everyone was in awe of his heads up heeling and focus....
Jacks started out fine... we did moving stand practice. Training a different method which actually works even better than how I taught him. No nose bops needed.
Instructor did a full exam on him and let me know that Jacks needs to lose weight. <- That was about that point where class started going wrong.
Articles were next and these were "ugh". He technically did fine, but I think that after this class is over I'm going back to square one. What I don't like is he is not picking up the dumbbells unless I go in to help him. I'm not sure WHY. This dog is a retriever, so the part I can understand him having a problem with is "finding" maybe, not picking up dumbbells. o_O He had been picking up before, but will turn around expecting me to come in and help him. I think there is a hole or we moved to quickly.
So we finished our articles....
And then it was glove practice. This was again where Jacks was less than enthusiastic about retrieving. He was acting/looking stressed out.
And then we got to the directed jumping. I used a toy on the 22" jump (him jumping like it was nothing). That was with the bar jump, impressive because we haven't done a bar jump in a couple months.
Then we move over to do the same with a different jump... and just as I set Jacks up and he's trotting towards the jump... there was a big BOOM of thunder.
Jacks freaked. Not as frenzied as he has in the past, but definitely shutting down as far as training.
I now know why he was slightly off today, and had to pull him off the floor early since there was no point in asking him to work through his fear.
I'm tired. >.<
