It's that time of year, where we get to share our goals for the coming year
As 2012 is drawing to a close and I reflect on this past year, I realize some of my best accomplishments were not included in my goals for last year – at least not in writing. These included cleaning up my footwork and training of the Figure 8 exercise, keeping the tail wagging activity going with all of my dogs and maintaining balance between obedience, rally, agility, field, physical fitness and just hanging with my dogs.
So some of my goals for 2013 will be smaller steps in my larger goals.
· Maintaining rhythm during heeling · Cleaning up front & deliveries · Faelan: needs more room to completely straighten his finishes · Towhee: needs to heel a smidge back from her current location · Me: Clean up my footwork for slow versus halt · Me: Record keeping & recording: analysis of what to try for obedience & agility
For larger goals
Casey: keep the wag in his step and the smile on his face
Faelan: UD, SH and working towards or achieving his PACH, UDX.
Towhee: CD, CDX and her agility titles. I do not believe she will be bred in 2013 … this may change if a certain someone decides it is the right time but for now I am not planning on her having a litter.
Brady: Continue laying the foundation for his agility & obedience journey and earning his JH.
ETA: I will also be considering whether to move Towhee out of Preferred into Regular; Daisy Peel has strongly recomended it.
Jonah:
Heeling: Get him heeling with total focus and giving effort. We start in Jan. working with a topnotch trainer for just his heeling.
Get a CDX and UD and rally titles.
Start my search for my next Golden?
I want to get into Open with Jacks. Or really REALLY get him in fun matches every month. My goal is to have at least 1 leg by this time next year or at least enter him in the home-turf shows next fall.
Bertie? I kinda want to get him into BN by September. But we will see. We have a LOT of training ahead of us.
I want BaWaaJige and I to have fun that is my main goal I would love if we could get a JH title, a UKC seasoned title, work towards our GR champion title and get our RO-1 ( I think that is the abbreviation for the first rally title.
We will contintue to do our therapy work and be invovled more in the reading programme.
For Liza: CGC and Therapy dog certificate, start Nosework or track
For Tess: hopefully no more Myositis flare ups, so we can go back to another hospital (at the moment we are only in one hospital), and go back to agility training, which she loves.
...really very modest, but big for us.
I honestly don't think any goals are modest They are your goals and dreams for what you'd like 2013 to bring for you and your dogs .. so they are substantial !!
I would like Molly to debut in the obedience ring in 2013.. Her former Rally instructor, who also trains in obedience under the same trainer as us, asked me when I thought Molly was going to make her debut so that got me thinking... I hadn't thought about it before.
I want to do agility just for fun and see how that goes too. She is my first dog, EVER, and I had previously never even heard about dog sports so this is HUGE for me.. I can barely believe it.
Filly:
As of the new year, I will be in 2 agility classes per week with Filly, and take a couple privates per month. I plan to get her entered in some trials pretty early on in the year. Hopefully we can get into them, as they fill up quickly, and have long wait lists up here.
I have kinda lost interest in obedience, but if I get back to training it, we will finally go for our UD.
I also would like to get her certified with TDI. She truely is a wonderful therapy dog, and is very gentle when needed.
Teach her a few tricks(currently working on skateboarding)
Rivet:
We will be in 1 agility class per week. Maybe by fall I will decide to trial him. I do not know, I just like to have fun with him.
Hank:
Enjoy every moment of time I have left with him.
Layla:
Work on more consistent contacts
Tighter turns
Getting more speed off the startline
Qualify for 2014 AKC Agility Nationals
MACH
Possibly run USDAA at the performance level
CCA
More location work in preparation for her UD
Jade:
Continue a good foundation for agility
Have nice consistent running contacts by the end of the year
Introduce more agility obstacles as he physically matures
Continue field training (possible WC? JH?)
Debut in Rally
Continue training all levels of obedience
UKC conformation?
I try not to make goals that involve deadlines because I don't want to be showing for the wrong reasons. Most of all, we smile and have tons of fun. No matter what happens, I am so thankful for healthy and happy dogs. It is not at all about the titles, but the journey that takes us there! Life with Goldens is one big party. My dogs think training and trialing is a BLAST because it SHOULD be that way!
I want to keep Titan healthy and happy..Mighty.... well he is a work in progress..lol..
Oh and keep Titan's date for later in the year with a pretty little MACH girl... which should keep Titan a happy boy at least..lol! Not much other goals....just having fun with the boys and allowing Mighty plenty of time to grow up..
Buddy: Adult Obedience 2 at Petco (my dogs really like the trainer there), CGC, and hopefully P-AT! I want to have him certified and start making visits around May or June. I also want to start agility by the end of the year.
Hiro: Basically the same list My boys are attached at the hip!
Me: Get better at clicker training! Build a dog-mansion And stay in San Diego because they love it here. Hopefully the Navy will be agreeable.
My big goal for 2013 is puppies! Keep your fingers crossed. :crossfing
The rest is to keep having fun with agility. I would like to finish Barley's PACH and another MACH for Mira. I am working on better contacts and getting better on my timing with front crosses. Also need to get those weave entries back up, we have not been practicing as much. Tough onside weave entries have been a weak point recently.
Oh boy, this will keep my overachieving self accountable. What a great idea!
For Kea (and me):
1. Titles, titles, titles - finish up the last leg of RN, start working on RA and CD
2. Try out some agility for fun now that she'll be 2 in April
3. For me: Continue to improve upon my conformation handling skills (i.e., stacking!), and attend a few fun matches
3.a. Back to the breed ring when Kea's coat comes back after recent false pregnancy
4. Get Kea's CCA
5. Start therapy dog work
6. Continue working with our breed mentor to determine Kea's potential to contribute something to the breed, which will bring with it lots and lots of research on potential stud dogs
7. Enjoy every second I can loving my girl. No matter how much time we have with them, it will never be enough...
For Tiny....to keep her healthy enough and feeling well enough to turn 16 in March!
For Tito....I'd like to get his MXP and MJP titles this year. Also to continue to train for finished/master, but I'm not putting a time frame on when we'll be ready to enter the tests, I don't want that kind of pressure on myself. We'll just take it as it comes.
Tally- I would like to repeat his RAE to go to the 2nd national, prioritize him and learning how to do open/cdx, bc we don't have a trainer here who does it, and finish his TD.
Finn, I would like to keep him healthy and social, make him the special dog to go to bday parties and extended family events to enjoy his time with him.
Lushie- my goal is to make the first cut at Westminster this year, so that if next year or the year after there is a good judge for us, we will have a little experience behind us. I would like her to have a safe, easy time with Gunner pups if she passes her final clearances this week, and I would like to do her rally titles with her. I am chewing on SDHF, but leaning away from it as a goal.
Copley- to give more time to his therapy dog work, and finish up his CD.
Boomer: have a happy healthy year, go where we go and do what we do as much as possible
Gladys: NAHRA Intermediate title; continue to work on SH, CD, Rally Novice, run when ready
