| Jacks - jumps, drops on recalls, heeling, signals <- basically everything. He's been on vacation from doing hard stuff for the past week or so.... Bertie - walking with attention on leash (i bought him his own training leash at a show), sits, downs, retrieves, steadys, and I wanted to introduce touches this week to get a jump on that. I did a little bit with Jacks last week and puppy came up and was copying his brother, so I think it will be easy to capture the behavior to mark/reinforce. Bertie is already doing waits.... o_O |
| ||||
| Have to share - it totally cracked me up when I discovered this, but Bertie's retrieves were a cazillion times more enthusiastic when I put the toilet paper rolls and squeaky toys aside and pulled out..... cat toys. He also gets super excited and worked up when doing come practice. He hasn't barked yet since coming home with us, but he does this frantic squeaking and vibrates. And then he's like shot out of cannon when released. I sat down and did touch training with both Jacks and Bertie. Jacks needs reinforcement and of course Bertie is just learning. For Jacks I pinned the target on the couch for him to go touch. With Bertie, I held the target in my hand for him to touch. The biggest thing I'm noticing is that Jacks is SUPER motivated to do everything because of the competition for the FOOD. |

| Brady has a few favored CAT toys He needed something long that could make like a squirrel or varmint trying to escape plus not have me too close, so there are some really nice cat toys made of pelts. You can also try tying a few toys together ![]() Brady has started teething (4 months) so most of the toys he is allowed to tug with are sheepskin and fur related; CleanRun had a nice selection of these type of toys. You are sooooo lucky that Bertie doesn't bark!! Brady does and it is high pitched and piercing; made worse because the older dogs give up their toys when he's barking - probably to shut him up!! My field trainer says he loves the expression on my face when Brady starts up - me, I don't.

| I have to admit that was one of the things I discussed with a few breeders.... I didn't want a barker. When I pulled up in the breeder's driveway, I could see a bunch of the adult dogs outside in the dog run (I think 2 acres that were fenced in). All of them came up to stand by the gate and watch me get out of the car, but not a single one barked. Bertie likes the sparkly tinsel balls and the crackly balls for retrieves. Because his mouth is so SMALL they are the perfect size so he can keep it in his mouth when running back. With Jacks I think I used crumpled paper balls too. |
