Going tonite where I used to train for years, lots more people and dogs so distractions will be awesome and there are different things done there than at my Mon. class both places are great with some mighty fine instructors at both. I hope to get some off leash heeling done and work fronts

I'm interested in the mentions of rally by Sunrise and Nuggetsdad. I've been thinking that maybe Zoe and I should be trying a little of that. We did do a couple of rally classes sometime ago but I hate those little signs. Talk about the dogs were all thrown by the 36s Slow from Halt, 27s (Down and Stop) seemed problematic for all the dogs and 207s (Stand While Heeling). Without referring to the rules I haven't a clue what Down and Stop or Stand While Heeling are.

We continue our low key training and have class on Friday. I've been considering trying novice at a Show'n Go in Hamden on the 15th. Any chance that Sunrise and Towhee will be there? Are you at all familiar with this event at Paws 'N Effect. . . how many people might be there. . . how formal an event etc.?

LOL - I used both the sign number and the short description.

Sign 36s is a halt, followed by Forward at a slow pace (my dogs expect me to step out so this was a good test)

27s (Down and stop) is a moving drop as you halt beside them (Towhee needs work on her downs - going down straight rather than curling)

207s is a moving stand and you then proceed forward about 6-8 feet (there will be a sign), turn around and face your dog to cue the return to heel.

I will be looking into the Hamden Sho n Go - both Towhee & Faelan could use all the Sho N Gos I can get them to although Towhee is coming up on being due to go into season. Thanks

Nugget blew the long down AGAIN!!! Overall he did well with anew place lots more distractions a chair falling over and a table with food on it. Heeling was very good watching ALL the time with a perfect Fiq. 8 Recall were fast with two good fronts but of the three finishes all had butt out . Got to work on the long sit and down stays and again the stand was solid with only an upward look at the judge and he really is a judge. Maybe with forward progress ( hopefully) I can show him in the spring.

That was great. . .what a cute little guy he is!

We had class today. Off leash heeling continues to be our big challenge. . . but Zoe got the award of the day for her sit and down stays. She managed to hold them despite lots of distractions from less experienced dogs and their handlers moving back and forth to attend to them and constant barking from the doggy daycare on the other side of the partition.

Any suggestions on how to keep her focused on me during the stand for exam?. She typically turns her head to look at the examiner but is pretty reliable about holding the stand.

Bertie is so cute looking up in heel position. I hope Jacks doesn't get too jealous.
Jonah and I went through most of the open exercises Thurs. and he was very good. Heeling was sloppy but we got back on track after a few minutes. I usually end our training sessions with fun music and we do backs, spins , twists, downs etc. Its fun for both of us.
