Training Plans: Nov 4-10 2012

Training plans for the week anyone?

Today I went to a match with Faelan, Towhee & Brady. Brady will be missing class tonight since he has already had a very busy day learning about being cute enough to be petted, watching dogs in conformation and obedience, touching, playing attention games, walking nicely on leash and being in a crate too.

Towhee was in Novice and I thought did pretty well for her 2nd (maybe 3rd) time in the ring. On the heel on leash, she misread a slow cue, heel off leash she became distracted and she completely lost focus directly before an about turn and her front on the recall was poor, but I had been curious about how she would react to the pressure of dogs and people right behind me .. she could use more practice Overall, I was very happy with Ms Towhee fresh off of maternity leave and her attitude was very nice.

Faelan had a Utility run thru and needed help on several exercises so is definitely not ring ready yet but his attitude was great and his heeling wonderful. Utility is hard <sigh>

We have agility class on Wednesday and I hope to work more obedience with bot Faelan and Towhee this coming week. Brady will continue his agility and obedience foundation work and Casey will be worked to keep his tail a-waggin and his smile gleaming.

We had our second Competitive Obedience class today. Liberty was STUBBORN and would not do a down/stay. She will do sit/stay, but she didn't want to lie down. The instructor was coaxing her down and she wouldn't stay for her either. So I guess that is what we need to work on this week. We are also learning heeling, about turn, left turn/right turn, recalls and front/sit. So much to remember!

I ordered Sue Ailsby's Training Levels this weekend for my Kindle. My first dog training book for my Kindle! I read up through level one this morning, and I'm pretty confident that he already has all these skills except the leave it with food. I'll be the first to admit I haven't taught him as much food restraint as he should have. In less than a minute he was jerking away from a treat when I said "leave it" like it had just shocked him. Which is kind of funny considering all I did was click when he wasn't actively going for the treat.

Towhee had a nice figure 8.
We are going to start working on open exercises with a bit more earnest.
Jonah got his second CD leg this weekend with a 195 and first place. However, I will say it wasn't the prettiest thing I ever saw but we had fun.

I took Lexx to a tracking workshop today. We travelled 45 minutes to the east where it had snowed on Friday so we were tracking in that (no snow where we are yet). We did 2 tracks with him and he did awesome...very focused. They weren't difficult tracks, just straight about 150-200 yards. The first one he wasn't too sure about but did track and find his article at the end. The second one he just flew through. He seemed to really enjoy it so we're looking forward to our next tracking event.

Here is a pic of Lexx with his article!!!

Very cool! Ive always wanted to do tracking but never got around to it. It sounds funny to hear about snow, it's still in the 80's here!
