Starting him early

I just wanted to post this picture of my grandfather and our new puppy, Charlie, and this seemed like the most appropriate place in the forum. As I've mentioned before, my pop-pop contracted necrotizing fasciitis (the flesh eating disease) in summer 2011. He was on his deathbed in the ICU for a week, and couldn't leave the hospital for 4 months. He's been in and out of the hospital for related issues ever since. He's truly lucky to be alive and to have been able to keep his legs.

This of course has led to our family spending a large amount of time in hospitals and around therapy dogs. My log-term goal for Charlie is to get his CGC and to become a therapy dog, just as a way to give comfort to those who have to be in hospitals like my grandfather does.

Here's pop-pop meeting Charlie for the first time:

Pop-pop had been having a really bad pain day due to the cold rain, and hadn't really been out of bed before Charlie and I came over at 3PM. Upon meeting Charlie, pop-pop just lit up. He was just talking to Charlie and playing with him like they were in their own little world. When we left, he was even up helping my mom-mom cook dinner.

Anyway, it was a great start to our goal and really made me appreciate everything that fully certified therapy dogs have done for my grandfather
