I finally found the videos of Keisel's first time in the ring. I remember that day (a year ago) and being so nervous going in the ring. This video is just to remind everyone that sometimes it isn't about being perfect - that it's about having fun! Especially for a 6-month old puppy! He knew better and I did correct him a couple of times, but after a bit I just let him have fun and I believe it's more important for them to experience a show ring this way then to have them corrected the whole time in a stressful environment.

Anyways, the video links are below - I hope this makes you laugh like I did. Keisel has such the personality - love him! <3

The judge didn't seem to mind him jumping on her! lol

And then going around the ring, his way that is... hop hop hop lol!

Finally for his last time in the ring that day (for Winner's Dog) he did MUCH better. Someone told me that when he jumps to go back to a walk and that seemed to work very well. Here is the video for WD, since Keisel won for the 6-9mo class, he was able to go in the ring again and compete.

I remember showing a dog from my first litter. His first show was the World Championship show in Bern, Switzerland (I think 1979). He was about 9 months old. In those days it was an outdoor show on grass. We had a lot of wind and small branches had fallen on the ring. He went round some of the time carrying a stick!! They used blackboards to show the placings and there was water and a sponge to clean the blackboard. He drank most of the water and then took the sponge. Oh dear!! He won his class and got the title of Junior World Champion over some strong competition from different countries. He was a super dog who became champion of several countries and had some lovely puppies. He died of old age at 15.
I think it really important that dogs enjoy showing, especially when they are young. Great to see the attitude of the judge.

Wonderful videos... I've never showed a dog before but I think you're right about it being most important for them to feel like being in a ring is fun. I bet he's turned into a perfectly behaved golden boy in the ring now. The judge certainly enjoyed his spunk! LOL

I loved the hopping! Lol so so cute! Does make it difficult but he was enjoying himself! I nicknamed Daisy "Tigger" after her show! Lol

Keisel is very well behaved now in the ring, now Miller has taken to the ring and has brought back the same memories :) He doesn't jump up as much but he definitely is a wild boy in the ring too! I'm not sure if you guys also noticed but at the end of the WD class, I almost walked out after she picked WD. Being new to showing - I totally forgot about RWD and that the second place of that class comes in for that pick. Good thing I looked over my shoulder and made sure that time. I do have to say I'm still nervous when I go in the ring but it has subsided over time. I just hope I get some points on my boys sometime soon! That would be such an amazing feeling

That's fabulous timing, Thankyou! Manny has his first show in two weeks, a championship show so we are diving in the deep end but it's the first one on the calender he is old enough to enter..so why not :)
We went to class on Monday and he was a crazy pup...playing and playing and very little focus. We went this evening and he was so much better and the man running it couldn't believe how great he looked. However..he then proceeded to do a hop skip and a jump followed by a roly poly which ended in his 'give me a tummy rub' pose..half way through running! (manny,..not the man!!) Everyone was laughing as he looked so cute and funny...and he had a great time :)

Let us know how he does!! Keisel was the same way in class too at times and sometimes he did behave. Honestly when you are there at the show there are a lot of noises going on, dogs barking, people clapping - it's like a 100% guarantee that the puppy will not behave with all of that going on! Try and take video too - it will be something you cherish later on and bring back great memories. I'm so happy I have this video to watch - it makes my day!
