Fishy smell

Izzy is smelling like fish on her skin and mouth. She is eating Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison...I thought the smell might be from eating the NB Sweet Potato and Fish but that was a week ago. The smell is NOT from her anal gland...it is coming from her mouth and skin. She has lost all of her puppy teeth and I thought maybe it might be the blood on her gums.

I am at a total loss.

Jack had some pretty rank breath when he was teething. I would think it's still that, given her age.

Cosmo has fishy mouth. He started getting it when he was teething. He now has lost all his baby teeth and his new teeth are coming in but he smells a bit. No one else here said that their dog's mouth smelled while teething so maybe that isn't the cause...

We fed a fish food too (Orijen) but switched a month ago to a fish/chicken formula (also Orijen). Maybe it is the fish food?

Roxy sometimes has a faint fish odor from her mouth not all the time but occasionally I notice it. Make sure its not from his ears too...... Plus, he isn't feeling to well today anyway. If he has to go back to the vet (hopefully not) maybe just mention it. But I'll bet its his teething.

I was going to say maybe try a bath and than see if he still has that smell, but if he's sick thats not a good idea

Sometimes if dogs have been on broad spectrum antibiotics than get, like we can, a thrush which would be visible as white specks on the tongue or in the mouth and that may or may not have an odor, usually not.

It's just not a good day for your little guy

I tried to gently brush Jack's teeth when he was teething. The foul odor improved when I did. Maybe that might help?

ETA: usually their drool smells too if it's from teething. If the stinky skin is still around her mouth that might be why.

I also just realized that her treats are the Zukes Salmon flavored....could be the culprit. The smell is on her back, not just around her mouth.

KaMu, I just realized that our pups are exactly the same age to the day.... April 14, the birthday? Are you in New England?

Their mouth can be really bad when they are teething. If they lick their fur that smell might get on their fur. Hopefully it will pass soon.
