I know I'm late doing this, but we've been a little busy.

Saturday, Bart and I drove up to Merriam, KS and adopted a sweet, little golden retriever/ lab mix puppy given the overly serious sounding name of Rachel.

She's between 10 & 12 weeks old, we're saying 11 weeks old. Some people were giving away golden / lab mix puppies at the local Walmart and couldn't give away two of the girls, our puppy and a more lab-ish looking, chocolate sister, so they were dumped next to a known puppy-mill.

The people at Second Chance Pet Adoptions came to their rescue though, and the rest is sort of history. I was perusing petfinder.com like I've been known to do almost since we got Lucy and found a puppy who looked almost exactly like her, but black. I sent Bart the link, and he actually said, OK. Then we hit a snag because we wanted to adopt her that coming weekend, but she wasn't scheduled to be spayed until the following Monday. Well, we couldn't make the drive the next weekend because of a prior engagement, and the rescue wouldn't adopt her out without spaying her. Then I got a call Thursday morning, and they decided to get her spayed on Friday.

I called Bart, who was in Beaumont, TX for the day for work and told him that we would be driving to KC on Saturday.

It was love at first site for both of us. We filled out the necessary paper work and paid the adoption fee. Then the three of us were on our way home, and we were trying to think of a name.

Finally we came up with Dorothy Gale, like in the Wizard of Oz, because we got her in Kansas. We're calling her Dory for short.

Then we got home, and it was time for introductions. At first Lucy didn't really care for Dory, but that didn't last long.

Lucy is having to learn how to really play with another dog, because when she plays at camp, all the dogs just bark at each other. That gets really loud, and she's teaching the little one to bark back at her.

Now, they're already pretty good friends, though Lucy still likes her own special hugging time with Mom and Dad and really doesn't like for Dory to cuddle up next to her yet. She's getting better about it all though.

Dory adores Lucy, and tries to do everything Lucy does. She pee pees when Lucy pee pees, They poop together, and Dory even tries to use Lucy as shelter from the rain, LOL. Lucy is a little protective of Dory and tries to make sure she's ok most of the time.

Dory is just adorable. It is great that her and Lucy are becoming the best of friends. I cant wait to see how much she looks like Nellie when she grows up. Congratulations on your pretty little baby girl.

Dory is adorable and, of course, Lucy is beautiful. They looked so cute running around playing--I love the way puppies run, sort of like a little lamb. I noticed the "DoryLu Productions" at the end of your video....that's funny!!

Congratulsions

Dory is just TOO ADORABLE! I love her!
Do you think she has some Flat Coated Ret. in HER?
How old is Lucy?

WOnderful to see that Lucy and Dory obviously love each other.
How far was the drive?

I love her name but when you mentioned Wizard of Oz, I couldn't help but think of the name Munchkin. We named one of our female Samoyeds, Munchkin!!!

P.S. WHAT happened to her Chocolate Sister? Hope she got adopted, too!

The chocolate sister was adopted before we got there. The drive took about 4 hours, but we stopped at a few Toyota dealerships along the way because Bart's going to buy a Tundra when he gets his Christmas bonus. His poor old truck has over 150,000 miles on it, and we need a double cab now to fit both girls!!!

About the FCR, maybe. We're probably going to do a DNA test on her some time because we're curious. First we want to do one of the girls' Aunt Lica, because we've wondered what all she is for YEARS, and she's getting on up in years.

I haven't called her "Munchkin" yet, but I call her "Short Round" some. Lucy is often "Sweet Pea," "Pumkin," and "Puddin' Head."

I just love the video of Dory and Lucy playing.:)
They are having a wonderful time playing and bonding!!!!:)
Hopefully I'll have some new video and pictures after we go visit their grandparents this weekend. They'll see Aunt Lica, and their black lab cousin, Apache, who's about Dory's age.

It's Nellie!!

When I saw this it brought a tear to my eye! Right down to the lips, she looks a little smaller than what Nellie was but other than that, what a resemblence! :) Love her name, it is very cute, and also the idea behind the name. I'm glad Luy likes her little sister, other wise you could have sent her to me! ;) Congrats again! :) I will have to go through my pictures this weekend (they'll be another pic. of a pic, but I am sure I have a similar picture of Nellie sleeping) and send some to you.
