I have a 5 month old female golden and we follow the "5 minutes of exercise per month that the dog has been alive for" rule, as it says here: https://www.totallygoldens.com/how-much-exercise-does-a-golden-retriever-need/
Since she is five months old she would require 25 minutes per day. So walking away from the house would take about 12-13 minutes, then walking back home would take 12-13 minutes. But since my golden likes to smell a lot of stuff and just takes a long time, we don't cover much distance. The distance that is covered in 12-13 minutes of me walking her could be covered by me alone in 5 minutes. I'm not sure if I'm giving enough exercise? I also want to avoid damaging her joints and such.
