When will his fur grow?

I'm absolutely tired of everyone thinking Lilo is a Labrador. 9/10 people think that he's a lab. At the begging I would correct them "No, he's a Golden", but now I just go along with it. When will his fur grow? He is 5mo now. Does he really not look like a Golden?

I think he is beautiful! My girl has LOTS of coat and people still ask if it's a lab. My last golden was a darker more red in color and people would ask if she was an Irish setter!
I used to attend the dog show every year and would listen to the people watch the best in show, you would be amazed at how uniformed people were. They had no clue about breeds. If it's yellow, it's a lab. If it's red it's a setter. He looks great to me.

He looks like an adolescent Golden. Nothing like a Lab.
His coat will fill in as he gets older, probably by 18 months he will have plenty of furnishings. Depending on pedigree, he may carry an abundant coat or a sparse coat, did you see his sire and dam, or photos of sire and dam (before she whelped- because the coat does react to whelping and generally all falls out)? I'd expect him to fill out like a combo of what sire and dam had coat-wise.

And to the Lab people, just say 'right family, wrong breed- he's a Golden not a Lab' and be done with them!

Lilo is one handsome puppy. He looks all golden. Most people just don't have enough knowledge to see the differences in the two breeds. I don't think Lilo cares what breed people think he is as long as they are friendly.

Five months is pretty much the worst time for coat. They've blown their puppy coat but don't yet have an adult coat, and they can look seriously scraggly. No worries, he'll get his coat. And when he's 10 years old you'll be stripping it out complaining about how much he has.

Lilo is beautiful. As others have said 5 months is pretty much the scraggly phase. Think of it like the human middle school years...not quite a child any longer and not an adult. In the process of getting there and at the moment stuck in the middle. Bailey didn't get his full golden coat until just recently and he is now 2 years old. And, no, I don't think Lilo looks anything like a lab. He is a lovely golden boy

He is adorable and is very obviously golden. I'd just go along with it, too.

When Kaizer was younger, people used to think he was a female lab. When he hit 6-7 months, his tail finally feathered out and his chest fur developed a bit and people stopped calling him a lab (although they still think he's a female).

Now he's 21 months old, and just starting to get that typical golden coat. His tail is thicker, he's got more chest fur and the fur along his back and underside is actually growing! He's always been a little slow to mature.
