What did you put on the floor of puppy's crate?

I'm counting the days until we bring home our pup and have pretty much everything I need. I'm wondering though, what did you put on the floor of the crate? I've read that they don't need anything, that they will chew whatever you put in there....but I see all these comfy looking pet beds so I'm not sure. With my last Golden I used sheets and towels and it didn't seem to be a problem but I'm just curious. Thanks!!

I never had a problem, with anyone chewing on bedding in a crate. I used a crate pad and baby comforters. I always had the crate next to my bed, so I would hear the pup.

We'll just be using old flannel pillowcases and have a few towels to layer on the bottom under the pillowcases-if (more likely, when) puppy chews said bedding, they'll get taken out until he learns not to chew it. The comfy bed will come when he proves he's over that stage

A thick beach towel. Tried putting the bed cushion in there, he tries to destroy it.
He is weird about something, he like to lay on towels, but if I have a rug down, no way! He chews it! Drives me crazy! lol

We bought crate bed along with crate, but had to remove it after couple of accident during potty training stage. Then returned it back, and watched him for a while. Toby didn't show any interest in chewing it, so it stayed.

We used an old blanket. Just be careful of whatever you use... make sure it doesn't unfringe in long threads (like a rug). Have fun with your new pup! Agnes

I put towels in at first, but they seemed to encourage him to pee on them, and he rucked them up so he could sleep on the floor of the crate anyway, so we took them out. He was a summer baby, though, so I think he was hot (although he still seems to prefer to sleep on our tile). He now has a bolstered crate pad with a more squishy memory foam type thing underneath and leaves it alone, but he's also 8 months.

Our breeder recommended purchasing a Primo Pad for our pup's crate. We did, and couldn't be happier. Our puppy has never tried to chew it. It's easy to clean and very durable. It also has a smooth cool surface that I think dogs with thick coats seem to appreciate. It costs more than other crate pads, but IMO is worth the investment. www.primopads.com

I had all kinds of plans for Bailey's crate when we brought her home LOL! On the way to pick her up, I stopped at Walmart and bought one of those $5 fleece throws. When we got to the breeder, we tossed it to the puppies and momma and enjoyed a nice game of family tug They were all rolling and playing and the momma dog was the referee. That poor blanket smelled like dog when they were done, and Bailey slept like an angel with it. After a few days, she decided she wanted NOTHING in her crate to lay on. I bought a really nice crate pad, she ran to the crate, growled at it and pulled it out by herself (which was funny at 8 weeks). She's a year now and only if it's cold at night will she let me put her crate pad in. She only sleeps in the crate at night. She's always warm when she wakes up so I think it's because she gets hot at night. During the day she has a really nice orthopedic bolster bed she lays on when she isn't snoozing on the couch
