Is it different not picking your pup?

So my puppy will be coming home on Sunday. The thing is, I don't know who he is yet. The breeder is picking him for me based on conformation, and temperament. This is the first dog I haven't picked out myself. Has anyone else had a dog picked for them? Did you feel any differently towards the puppy, or was it love at first sight anyways?

I promise you will love your puppy every single bit as much as if you picked yourself. I'm a big believer in the breeder choosing the puppy homes. He or she will know them best if they've raised them right :) I'm sure you are awfully excited - I hope you'll post lots of puppy photos ;)

My current pup was picked for me - and she couldn't be a more perfect match. No one knows the puppies as well as the breeder does. If you are honest about what you are looking for in a pup, the breeder will find the best match. And trust me, you will fall in love the second you meet. I didn't even meet my puppy until the day I picked her up, as she was born too far away to travel twice. It definitely did not change anything about how much I love her. And I'll add, I would not want to pick out my pup. I'd be afraid I would choose the wrong one!

My breeder picked our pup for us. She had a meet and greet two weeks before. I asked her how she chose. I was similar to age and size to her, plus no children at home, so she said she would take those things into consideration. She also said that she sometimes didn't know until the night before. It's a good thing she was the one to pick, because during the drive home from the meet and greet, both my husband and I voiced our opinion that he was our last choice! He was aloof, and the smallest of the bunch! We absolutely could not love him more! He is a big boy now, and aloof? Forget about it.

I much prefer the breeder to choose the pup. I remember, as a kid, going with my parents to choose our spaniel pup from the litter. It was awful, having to leave the others there, as though we were "rejecting" them!

The breeder is the person who knows the pups the best, and as long as he or she knows what you want, you'll be fine.

How do you temperament test the pups? You test them when you go visit? Curious

We picked our puppy Duke last weekend. My breeder picked him out for us. After a week, I can tell you he is absolutely perfect for my family. I am glad I didn't have to pick. The breeder has been with the puppies since birth so I trust her judgement over only a few minutes seeing the pup.

I didn't pick my puppy nor did I meet him before flying 2,000 miles to pick him up. No pictures either until 2 nights before when I'd already flown out LOL. (I would only do this with an extremely reputable breeder, which she was.) Honestly it was a little stressful for me not knowing at all what he was like, but it all worked out. The bond grew after a couple months. You love them no matter what. :) He's such a lovebug!

Wow that is trust! I'd be a wreck if I attempted something like that!!!
