so Milo hates his create. he cries every time we put him in there, he goes nuts!! after like 15 mins he calms down and stays there. He wont go there on his own, every time I tell him "lets go Milo get in there" and put a toy, treats, play with him around the crate he refuses to even get close to it. I covered the crate so he feels more in a cave and safe and that didn't work. all of my dogs loved the cage from day 1 not Milo.
I think what I did wrong was not introducing the crate before night time. so the first time he saw the crate was at night time and he cried most of the night. but we were too busy cuddling with him all day and my daughter playing with. with my lab my husband introduced him the crate during the day and let him nap there with the door open. and our lab loves his crate he loved it since day 1.
idk what to do with Milo. I feel like he already had a bad impression of the crate.
should I keep letting him cry until he eventually gets used to it?
I cant put the crate anywhere in the living room or bedroom because his crate is huge and doesn't fit. but his is in the laundry room with my lab and yorkie all three in different crates and they can see each other so I don't think he feels lonely I think he hates being crated.

any advice please!

lily came from a pet store, and crate training didnt work as she simply just used the place as her bathroom. There ARE alternatives to crate training, and if you find that it really doesn't work and its just stressful for your pup, maybe try another set up.

try what the other members suggested first, make it a safe place, you could hide lots of nice goodies in there for her to seek out?

I'd also suggest a smaller crate for the bedroom. She IS lonely, and bringing her in there with you will help. Try Kijiji or Craig's List - there are LOTS of second hand crates for sale. My puppy hated the crate, too, but bringing her in my room with me definitely helped.

I too did not want to get a smaller crate, but I got a 28" crate that fit better in the bedroom, and allowed me to transport Finley in my sedan. He outgrew it quickly, but it was still worth it. Even though he is happily in his big boy crate, he still retreats to his baby crate sometimes. Barely fits, even with the door taken off, but he still loves it.

Here is how I got him to love his crate (cuz he didn't at first). Put treats in crate for him to discover. Once he did, dropped more treats into the crate. It's raining treats! After a few sessions of this, he is going into the crate to see if treats will drop from the sky. And they do! Finley loves his crate!
Also fed meals in crate to encourage. Much luck!!

Stick with it...crate training is worth it. Travel, vet trips, etc, it'll make everyone's life easier including your pup's. You don't say how old he is but I'm guessing you haven't had him that long? I've yet to see an 8-12 week old pup that loved their crate. That comes with time. The first bit can be rough, he just has to learn that the crate is part of living in a house and growing up.

Thanks yall hes only 8wks and 3 days! .... We put him together with our lab who is 6 months old has a lot of room in his crate.. They love being together. Is the only way milo dont cry he even goies in there on his own.... I wonder if it ill be easier when we separate them?!? Eventually they wont fit together .
