House Training HELP!!!

Hi there! I have a question on how to get a puppy to tell you when they need to go out. I work from home and George (my 12.5 week old puppy) stays in a Xpen by my desk and comes out to pee and small play times often. He is crate trained and we have no issues at night. We go out often and 9.5/10 he pees (he pees a lot if you ask me) but there is no indication that he has to go out and he has been having more accidents in the house. I find its often when he is playing with out older dog that he just pees on the floor. There is no indication or attempt to get outside. I have bells at the back door and I (most times) will take his paw and make the bells ring and say 'pee pees outside' and we go outside and then I say super excited 'GOOD BOY PEES PEES OUTSIDE' but I don't give treats/other rewards. What am I doing wrong?? If he's in his crate or pen he will bark/cry to get out - if he's in the house -he just pees right where he is on the floor. Its making me crazy. HELP. PLEASE.
ps. How do you rotate pictures so they are right ways up after they upload?? TIA

Usually around 4 months it will start to click and they will ask to go out. In the mean time the bells are good. And remember after playing to take him out. He is right at the age where they start to have control of their bladder for longer periods.

You'll need to continue to take him out often if he isn't asking. I think for us, this go around has been a bit harder because there are a lot more distractions. IF he is busy playing he is going to squat to not attempt to break that play. Our girl would do that after playing with our kids. It reminded me of potty-training my human toddlers- they'd suddenly forget to ask if they were too busy having fun.

We still take our girl out if she doesn't ask(just not nearly as often as we did when she was itty-bitty). He is still quite young so I would just keep doing what you're doing and it'll click. I'd also ensure there isn't any smell left over as this is inviting him to go potty there.

This made me laugh. Bayleigh was almost 11 when she died and I can count on one hand how many times she "asked" to go outside. She just held it. However, we took her out a lot and did a lot of outside walks. Dory will sit by the door(sometimes) and other times we just take her. Typically if she doesn't need to go, she won't come when we say, "Lets go potty!". Same with Bay- she'd just look at us like we were stupid as if to say," look, people, it is HOT out there and I do not need to pee!"

So many of these are making me laugh! The it's hot and I don't want to go out there look, the blank stare and Piper playing with the bell! I haven't tried the bell but I imagine it would end the same here. Trevor is 4 1/2 months and rarely has an accident (it is usually our fault when he does). When he stares blankly, I tell him unless you can use the toilet, you're going out!

I love hearing these stories. They are all so much the same!
