New puppy, should I be worried?

I got my new puppy Alfie two days ago. This is my first dog. I got him late evening on Thursday. He's 8 weeks old.

The first night I was a little concerned as when I checked on him in the morning he hadn't eaten or gone to the toilet.

However while I was at work my partner had given him goats milk. A vet suggested trying to feed him a weetabix mixed with goats milk which he also ate.

He since improved and has been eating normal puppy food.

He doesn't have dirreah but his stool is quite soft. He has eaten 3 times today his last meal was at about 4pm and he hasn't eaten since. He's been sleeping a bit but he is still quite playful.

He's just been to the toilet, it wasn't on the toilet pad so I quickly grabbed him and put him on there. His stool was consistent with the last, not dirreah but quite soft. After I cleared up his stool I went to the pad to see what he'd left. It wasn't poo it was like a clear thick liquid about a small tea spoons amount and tiny specks of blood. Barely traces but blood nonetheless.

He has a vets appointment on Thursday evening. Should I be concerned about this and move it forward to Monday? He has had one vaccination.

Just to update he has gone to the toilet again his stool has become more consistent with dirreah. After once again he went to the toilet which was the clear liquid and there was clearly more blood in there.

Please offer some advice, am a first time dog owner and quite concerned

You will probably need a stool sample to take to the vet. He needs to be tested for parasites. He might need more wormng also if the person you got him from didn't worm him.The stool sample can't be older then 12 hrs. The eating doesn't really bother me. At that age they should eat three times a day. If he isn't vomiting and is acting normal it is probably a normal parasite a puppy gets pretty easily.

I would get him to the vet before Thursday. Can you get him in Monday? It could be something really dangerous and deadly like Parvo, it could be giardia, or it could be nothing. We can't diagnose him. Frequent diarrhea, especially with blood in the stool is not common or healthy. If he becomes lethargic as well id be taking him to the nearest emergency vet.

Thanks for the reply.

I have contacted the breeder who has taken Alfie for a few days to monitor him and will be taking him to the vet on Monday.

She did say that he hasn't got a fever and he's not lethargic. Also, apparently can't be parvo as he and everyone around him (brothers, sisters, mother and father etc) have all been vaccinated for this.

Good to hear Alfie is doing better. It could have been the stress from a busy day. It was also nice to read the breeder had taken him back home so she could keep an eye on his condition. Having a breeder involved like this is really helpful. Hope he gets to come back home to you in the next day or so. Congratulations on your new pup.
