Hello everyone,

i`v recently got a new Golden retriever puppy, his name is DONUT & trust me i think i made the best decision of my life, he is soo cute and funny. but at the same time i have few questions too which i was not able to find a answer anywhere.

1) we took him to vet and he gave 9 in 1 & anti worm vaccination and suggested me to bring him again after few days for Rabies vaccination. DO WE NEED TO GET DONE ANY OTHER VACCINATION ALSO ?

2) My biggest concern at this moment is about making him bath, vet says don't let him get wet or bath otherwise he may get sick. fellow GR owner says make him bath every week, some says every month...now we are really confused about this. he is current into his 8th week and have already started shedding hairs but he smells bad as we are not making him bath and sometime he keep rolling in his pee and make himself dirty, though we clean him daily with wet towel but still we really want him to make bath at least once per week.

3) sometimes he do he Sleepwalkings, he always jump into his water bowl and spread water from it and sleep into it. is it very normal ?

4) when can we start teaching him swimming ?

5) currently we are feeding him royal canin maxi starter, cheese, curd and rice. any other suggestions do you have ? our vet suggested to keep him on royal canin maxi starter diet for at least first 4 months.

please suggest the best for him, we really want him to grow at his best and we really love him and want to grow him like our baby.

attaching two of his pics :)

I saw from your other post that you live in India. I know in the US, rabies vaccination can not be given until a dog is at least 16 weeks old. Some even wait until 6 months. I don't know why that would be any different in another country. Typically oral dewormer is given about every 2 weeks until all the worms and eggs have been killed. Besides rabies, puppies get at least 3 rounds of vaccines. The vaccine is for Parvo, distemper, etc. I don't see any reason you couldn't bathe an 8 week old puppy if you need to. He should be properly dried off and kept in the house, so no risk of freezing to death.

We're in Florida and our vet did the rabies vaccine at 14 weeks. I believe in Florida they began at 12 weeks. Each state varies with different laws of when they should be done.

Our puppy is 4 months old and she's been bathed a lot. Just keep Donut dry after and he will be fine. Also, we introduced swimming once she was fully vaccinated & could go to the dog beach.

How old is your pup now? I'm not familiar with the different kinds of Royal Canin, but most advise a large breed puppy food up until the dog is at least 6 months. Is Donut being fed the cheese curd and rice regularly or as a treat. They don't really provide much nutrition to his diet so he should really just be fed the Royal Canin. You don't want him lacking protein or other essentials, but it's fine to use people food as treats.

Hey ArchersMom,

Thank you very much once again for responding.

Donut is currently starting his 9th week, no we don't feed donut regularly with cheese curd and rice. we are giving four meals of royal canin maxi starter daily and every 2nd day we give him cheese curd and rice as one of his meal replacement. in any case he is getting 2 bowls of royal canin per meal, three times a day.

awaiting your valuable suggestions 0:)

That's great that you split his meals up. He probably needs about 2 cups a day of the Royal Canin, supplementing with other foods is fine and long as he's getting enough of the dog food. As he gets older and goes through growth spurts you'll have to increase his food. He looks like a healthy, handsome pup :)
