Jon had diarrhea since Thursday. So no food for a night started chicken and boiled rice since friday afternoon. He doesn't do #2 during the day time but wakes up around 1AM and out for diarrhea another one at 3AM. Since yesterday diarrhea turned into so mucus jelly looking.
Thought it was worm tablet side effect (he had on Wed) but 3 days rice + chicken is not working, took him a vet this morning. Vet couldn't find anything wrong with his stool sample but gave metronidazole to take.

His weight was 31 ponds today. Poor thing lost bit of weight. (He is 5 month, 18" tall) Vet said keep giving him rice + chicken till his stool is ok. I feel so bad for him. He keep sitting in the kitchen & looking so sad. I am just worry if he will lose more weight next few days with bland diet. He plays, running our backyard so much still.

I know chicken + rice will help his tummy but what if it harms his general health?? Vet said he will be ok but I don't feel good not giving him good nutrition food when he is unwell. Anything else I can give to him? Vet even said don't bother giving him mashed pumpkin, just chicken + rice..

Any advice or any good bland diet recipe would be great help.

You can also add some canned pumpkin to his diet. NOT pumpkin pie filling, just plain canned pumpkin. Most dogs love it and it should help firm up his stools. Try adding a tablespoon or two to each meal. Has your vet talked about adding a probiotic? You may want to ask about that. I have used them with my dogs and they help.

Here in Canada Royal Canin makes a Gastro food, that my Vet put my pup on when he was 4 1/2 months old, as I was concerned about keeping him on chicken and rice for an extended period of time, when he had diarrhea. Pumpkin does help too.
