Hello out there,
Well now here is a pickle of a question... Wrigley is 7.5 months old and he is a hot hot dog. It is winter... and here in BC and Alberta it is cold, at least -5 C or about 28F...
Sir Wrigs seems to be hot all the time. So much so that he has to lay by the outside walls on the hardwood or tile in the house and in his crate all he can stand is a towel. No fluffy cute puppy pads...
I am looking to see if anyone else has hot dogs. I cannot imagine the poor guy in the summer when we hit 35C at home.
I am thinking of getting the Ruffwear Swamp vest and see how that goes.
He is so hot that he may encourage me to buy a new vehicle with rear air for the guy..

Thoughts? Thanks.

i'm not sure if this is true because i've never researched it, but i go to a specialty pet food store (or did before i started feeding raw) and the owner said that chicken/poultry are warm-muscled meats...or something like that and can cause dogs who are sensitive to diet to be hotter than normal/overheat. I've never heard of this before but if your pup is eating food with chicken maybe switching to a different meat source other than poultry would be worth a try? I wish I had a more factual information based response for you!

Bentley has no food issues at all but he is a HOT dog :D He came home in Aug and immediately started sleeping on the AC vents. I had to put his crate next to a vent.
Now that the heat is on I had to cover that vent. He likes to lay on an outside wall too.

Sometimes when the heat kicks on I see him run to the vent, when he feels it's warm and not cold he stares at it while turning his head like he can't figure out why it stopped spitting out his favorite cold air :D

Very interesting with the food. He is on a raw chicken based diet.. With the switch from kibble 1 month ago I thought chicken would be the easiest on his belly...

I will take that into account and have a chat with the food store.. Wont he be excited to get new food.

Funny also as I rented a Tahoe this last week so he could check out how the other half lives with A/C on in the back... He seemed afraid of the vents when I turned up the fan... What a turkey.

Thank you. I will have to move the palatial crate to a vented area... My hubby may be displaced.. I also thought of trying a cooling pad in the crate.

Max has always preferred the cold spots - except when he gets a notion to lay in front of the fireplace. It's barely above zero here tonight and he's pouting because I won't leave the front door open so he can lay there and watch the critters. Yeah, it's dark out, apparently he can still see out, though.

Hank was a July puppy and from the beginning he liked sleeping on the a/c floor vents. He much prefers the cold to heat but also likes to be outdoors with us in the summer.

Rocket has never wanted to go outside as much as he has in the last week....when our temps have been in the single digits with below zero wind chills in the evening. He comes to the back door as if he wants in, but when we open the door, he sits out there and stares at us, then runs for a ball, begging for us to come out and play with him. LOL!

In the summer, I can barely get him to go out to potty and he's running back inside into the air conditioning.

He does have a nice bed in his crate now and seems to like that, but his crate is up against two outer walls, and we keep our house quite cool. When not in his crate, he almost always chooses a hardwood floor to lay on.

It appears that Goldens do not mind the cold.
Our Bella is 9 months but petite (50 Lbs).
The temperature here in Ontario has been -20 to -28°C (0°F) for the past few days & Bella hasn't been daunted by the drop in temperature.
She still wants our to play & for our evening walks. Bella's like rocket , she'll come to the door, not to come in, but entice us to go out & play.
Last summer it was hot (+25 to +30°C) consistantly. Bella didn't seem to mind that either als long as she could get in the shade & had plenty of water (with ice cubes).
I noticed she would lay on the cooler tiles in our kitchen, and on the bare metal floor in her crate rather than the nice plush pillow we provided.
We keep our house cool at night about15°C (60F) in winter compared to 23C (74F) in summer. She is sleeping on the pillow these days.

We lost our Husky a year ago last November. We joked about him as being a rare breed of house husky.
Didn't like cold in winter, he'd go out do his business & want right back in to lay by fireplace.
In summertime he didn't like heat either, although he liked to lay on the deck at early sun rise.
As soon as it got around 70 F or so he wanted in to lie on cool tiles.
There's a picture of Romeo in the Rainbow Bridge section.

My first golden was a "hot" dog. Always layed against outside walls and always on the stone floors. Never had a problem swimming in the winter. He was content to sleep outside all night many times. Now Wyatt he is a "medium" dog I would say. He doesn't get as warm as Cody. He actually likes laying in the Sun. Both ate the same food.
