I Have called the vet and I am waiting to hear back, her breathing is not labored and I have already dosed her with Benadryl. this is the first time I have had to give it to her so a little paranoid. She was fine last night when she was put to bed at 9.30 but she did ask to go out twice last night which is not usual.
I got up at 5.15 put them out then let them in and fed them she ate like normal. Then I put them back out for a few minutes before I went and took my shower, lights were low in the house as everyone else was still sleeping. When I came out I noticed her rubbing her face on the carpet so I called her over and saw her eyes and muzzle were really swollen but thankfully her breathing was clear.
I called the vet and asked for a call back asap, then gave her benadryl and examined her muzzle inside and out looking for punctures, scratches or? Her gum colors are good, breathing clear and she is chewing on her bone right now. Wrong time of year for bees. Can't figure out what she got into and no new foods unless she got a scrap that a kid dropped. Poor baby she is not comfortable but at least her airway is clear. Now for that vet to call me back.

Hope you hear back from them soon.

This happened to my boy when he was 12 weeks old. He went out to play and came back and his muzzle had doubled in size. Turns out he had an allergic reaction to a spider bite. It didn't affect his eating, breathing, or energy level and didn't hurt when I pressed lightly on it. Still too cold, but maybe one got in the house? It took a week on Benedryl twice a day for the swelling to go down.

OMG - I would be getting her in the car and beating down the vet door. Though that's probably based on personal experience.... We had a golden who was allergic to mosquitoes (thankfully was not an outside dog) and would get huge welts all over his body if bitten. The first time this happened, I remember his face looked like a sharpei and he was drooling profusely....

Beyond the endless lists of foods/cleaning supplies she could have gotten into.... It could be she ate a spider or tried to. Carpenter ants can cause a lot of swelling as well if you have them in your home and the dogs try nomming them.

The eye swelling is already going down, but I am not letting her rub at them. No fever, good heart beat and respitory. If he doesn't call me back soon I will drive to another clinic that is open aleady. I don't trust the local Emergency clinic at all heard way to many bad things about them.
I am not a very patient waiting sort of person. What every it was it seems to have been outside and I will look as soon as its light to see if I missed anything on my daily dog yard sweep and the chemicals what few I have in the house are locked up behind closed doors she cannot reach.

Hopefully not. Brown recluse spiders are very common down here, but not in most of the US. In fact, I have read that people report them often in other areas, but they turn out to be other species. Exceptions for those moving from our area to other parts of the country - we can bring them with us, but they haven't been found proven to live long or establish a colony in other areas.

I hope it's not any more serious than a reaction to a bug bite.

My bridge boy got bit by a spider, stung by a wasp, and a bee when he was alive. He had similiar reactions each time. Went to the Vet for a shot and gave him Benedryl as you have done. Within a very short time, the swelling went down and his breathing returned to normal.

Hope you can get your girl in soon and she'll be alright.

Vet was slammed this morning more then one emergancy going on, when I got there he came out to check her over real quick to see if he could wait or it was a now situation. Swelling had already started to go way down so I told him I would wait. When I found it her lips were almost 2 inches thick!

He was happy with what I gave and that I had given it right away. He could not find anything so thinks it is a bite he was happy to hear that I keep Benadryl on me always and gave her a cortaco shot. I am to watch her carefully and give the benadryl twice a day same dosage I gave for the next three days. He said if it happened once it could happen again so carry the benadryl

Its a bummer I picked this litter cause no one had any allergies Sparkles developed them late and I wanted to avoid it, and Tinker was a repeat litter and that litter turns two next month and no one has any problem sigh thats my luck. Hopefull it will be a one time thing.

Any changes bring her right back. I just sat on the floor with her monitoring her breathing and heartbeat waiting till I got the call. Funny I could almost watch the swelling receed as the benadryl kicked in.

Glad to hear it's under control! I just wanted to pass something along - I was out walking my Tucker yesterday and had a conversation with a neighbor up the street - turns out he had to take his retriever to the hospital on Saturday due to a reaction to road salt or chemicals within it - I guess dogs, if overexposed to it, can have a nasty reaction. Definitely made me more cautious after hearing his story. I'm sure this isn't related to your pup's reaction, as she's so young and probably not taking long walks on roads yet (and your area may not be dumping salt on roads like they are here in southwestern PA!) - but I just wanted to pass this along... I knew paws could get very irritated from the salt - but I didn't know they could have allergic reactions to it!

Yikes! That's scary! What kind of shot did you say you give?

I'm still waiting for my little girl to get stung by something. It seems that she lives to find little creepy crawlers in the grass. She tried to eat a hornet one time... I was lucky enough to catch her and stop her! If it moves/flies, she thinks it's something fun to catch and eat.

Tink

You're a good mommy and I'm glad you gave her the benadryl, too!
Glad to hear the vet doesn't think it's anything.
I KNOW you'll keep a close eye on her!!

We do get Brown recluse spiders where I live but the quick reduction of swelling and the fact we cannot find a bite site and we have been searching, means it would be unlikely. Where they bite the area around it tends to die off so they look nasty at least the ones I have seen.

And yes I am keeping a really good eye on her, hubby had to take my daughter for her lesson as I was not leaving her. He also ran to the store for me as well, thank goodness he was home today. I took a picture of her face when about half the swelling was gone. As soon as I can find the cord for my camera I will post the pictures. The weird thing is now she has snow nose!

Oh someone asked about the shot he gave her its a steroid shot that works well with the benadryl I already gave her and gives a real boast. Right now she is by me attacking her bone. She didn't get any walks today our usual, as we thought we would give her a day to relax but we have been playing some games and some light training. Girl never quit asking for treats even though her lips were like and inch and half thick.

Ok I could not get a good picture as she was a moving target but this shows what the swelling looked like after it had gone down by over half! So image it she looked like she had a stuffy in her mouth, lips winging out but with no stuffy
this is what she should look like

That happened to my puppy is late summer- he was only 3-4 months old so it was pretty scary. His face and eyes were swollen, red itchy bumps were all over his ears and legs. Took him to the vet who gave him a steroid shot and told us to give him benadryl. Next day it wasn't getting any better. He has to get meds from the vet that included a steroid and an antihistamine.
